Any ideas for getting through work not starving to death?

I have a real problem when I am at work. I am hungry all the time!!! I work some odd hours. Sometimes during the day, some at night. I also am right next to the "snack drawer" in my office. Not good. Any ideas?

I like the apple cinnamon flavored rice cakes, you can also get the chip size versions of them. My rice cakes are only 50 cals each and pretty filling. WW and Slim Fast also have snack type foods. Look at your labels carefully. I'm wondering about these lite microwaveable popcorns. I've seen quite a few recipes for bran muffins that would be easy to wrap a weeks worth and take one daily.

I was looking at the bran muffin recipes last night. Wondering if they had any flavor to them?

Are you able to bring your own snacks to work? I bring myself a huge bag of frosted mini wheats. I also make myself something to drink, like tea, on a regular basis. Can you bring carrots, for example? Yogurt? Nuts?

You don't necessarily need to stop yourself from snacking. Just make sure that the snacks you have are healthy, on-plan choices. Also, bring a water bottle and try to drink alot of water.

One other thing: gum. Keeping your mouth busy with something sweet can stave off the cravings for sweet or salty snacks sometimes.

Your right...water is really something I need to work on!

I agree with Saucy. I try to keep my desk stocked with snacks I can eat guilt-free (like WW 2-Point bars, granola bars, 94 percent FF popcorn mini-bags ... that kind of thing.) That way, if someone does something evil like bringing in doughnuts, I can avoid them by checking out my drawer first.

There are always "evil-doers" at my job....I have to be very tough to avoid them!

I agree with all the other comments, when I go into work I bring my lunch, and my snacks for throughout the day. I don't like to spend a lot of time on meal planning so I have snacks that I know the points value of already. Stock up on fresh fruits, veggies, yougurt, jell-o and 100 calorie packs get something that is delicious to you so it feels indulgent but controled. Also I take 64 oz and 22 oz refillable bottles of cold water from home. I kind of make a contest with myself to see how far I can get each hour. There are hundreds of choices of WW snack foods, 100 cal pack snack foods, the fat-free popcorn mini bags as Arlene mentioned. If you want something other than water, guess what tea sweetned w/ splenda, diet sodas, and crystal light for bottled water is easy to stock up on. It's all about being prepared.

Yup, just waiting for the baby to wake up so we can go grocery shopping. I used to be sooo good about drinking water..just gotten away from that. I have the next two days off from work, when I go back, I will be prepared!

Like everyone else, I've had to deal with this problem for years. Sometimes successfully, sometimes ... well, not so much. Here's what keeps me honest at work:

  • Write It Down. It's been shown time and again how keeping an eating log helps you to eat less. Make sure it's readily accessible. I recommend taping it to the vending machine in the kitchen.
  • Keep Healthy Snacks on Hand. When someone brings in softball sized chocolate chip muffins for breakfast, just look in your snack drawer. One sight of the rice cakes will remind you how much you hate dieting. This will inspire you to get to your goal weight as quickly as possible by skipping the muffin.
  • Always Have a Full Water Bottle. Ever had to work through lunch and they order pizza for everybody? No problem! When Chet comes to ask you if you want double cheese or extra pepperoni, just grab your water bottle and pour it over him. He definitely will not be bringing you any pizza.

Good luck!

don't forget about some lean protein...Roni's bean salads are great and very filling for low points. Also string cheese and chicken breast strips...it will help keep hunger at bay. I love to snack and when I work nights it's all I can do to keep myself from just eating away the nights....

I have an awesome 2 point 'snack' that's as filling as a meal........
1 envelope plain oatmeal. make it with a little less water than specified,
Add a packet of splenda and 1 container Motts Cranberry/Raspberyy HIGH FIBER applesauce (its new). Heat in mocrowave.
It makes the equivalent of 2 packages of oatmeal, its flavorful, and its 2 points for the oatmeal, 0 for the splenda and 0 for the applesauce. Its EXTREMELY filling. I use it for lunch when I'm eating a 'point heavy' dinner or vice versa. A good snack too!
