Blog to Lose

No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!

So, I'm on weight watchers and I know that it's important to eat all my target points everyday. My question is, if I have leftover points or say activity points for the day, is it better to eat something before bed or go to bed hungry? In other words, is it better for weight loss to let my burn some stored fat or should I give it fuel for the night??

I normally have a 1-3 point snack before bed. I'm not a fan of going to bed hungry.

I say listen to your body, if you are hungry, then grab a piece of fruit or a handful of crackers. If not then leave the points.

I prefer not to eat those points late in the evening, however, there are times when it comes back at me the next day with a vengeance, and then, I am hungry all day long, and just trying to catch up.

Realistically, the time of day you eat doesn't matter. What they've found is that people that eat late at night tend to make unhealthy choices, which is why you've heard the "don't eat past 7 or 8" rule. If you're eating something healthy (some protein is a great choice- cottage cheese, string cheese, yogurt) you'll be fine. It's actually great to eat a little (stress LITTLE) something before bed if you're working out because it will help repair your muscles while you sleep.

I generally follow the rule if I'm hungry, I eat. If I'm not hungry, I don't. Like other people said, if I go to bed hungry I just wake up starving the next day and eat more anyway, so it probably would have been better to just eat a light snack!

I think the rumor has been a long time that eating before bed is bad. The theory is that you burn less points as you sleep. In actuality, I have heard that you burn calories the same all the time. I am a definite night snacker. If I go to bed hungry, I seriously wake up in the middle of the night and eat without realizing it. We keep reduced fat oreos in the house and now we have to keep them on the top shelf. My husband has caught me a few times, and the next morning I won't remember a thing. I told him one morning that I had a dream that I was eating cookies, and he told me that I did. I couldn't believe it! We had a new bag, so I went to see how many were missing, and I had eaten 6. 6 points that I didn't even remember!
