Do any of you use a pedometer to count your steps? What's your experience with this? Did it encourage you to walk more? Is it annoying to carry around?

I use one all the time. I will agree with Darla - you need a GOOD one in order to not get utterly frustrated. My old one used to constantly reset in the middle of the day, how annoying.
Just make sure you set it properly and you're on your way. I made sure every day by the time I left work, I was at 5K steps, if I wasn't, I would spend extra time walking around at work to get it in, and then I knew once I got home, i could get another 5K steps in when exercising.
I think it's great as well. I set a goal for myself and try to achieve it everyday. Lots of nights, I am walking in front of the tv. I guess that is better than being a couch potato. ;)
I've been wearing a pedometer every day for years now. I put in on my shoe or sock because it seems to count better that way. (I probably just need to get a more expensive one ... the most recent one I bought cost $4 at Walgreens'. But it seems to work just fine, so why spend a lot of cash?)
I think it does motivate me to move more ... but I get discouraged on days like today when I've slept in and have about 5,000 steps when it's time to go to bed.
I have been wearing one for a couple weeks now. I put it on in the morning when I get dressed and it stays on until I'm couched out at night. My goal is a minimum of 10 000 steps a day which seems to be do-able just in my regular day. If that is the case, then I need to be sure I get in at least 30 min of walking or something to do a bit more. I like it as it really shows me which days I am moving around the class and which days are paperwork days.

I'm just starting to again. I really like to - on the days that I know I don't get up from my desk at work very much I'll spend some extra time walking at lunch or after work to make sure I get a minimum level of activity in - so, yes, it encouraged me to walk more. Annoyance factor is zero - they are very light and compact. I like wearing mine.
ETA: Just a quick thought - wear it for a couple of days to see what 'normal' activity is for you, then set your goal a little above that. After a week or two, bump the number up a skosh more. (For the 'average' person, 2000 steps ~ 1 mile). Take a look at what you're already doing and go from there. Good luck! =)
