I want to know the truth, and I know I can get it here (=. Has anyone tried it? I would love to hear about it. Seems very pricey, is the food good? Any information would be awesome!
Hey there - I actually do WW but I travel ALOT and I bought the nutrisystem food for about 3 months last year so I had shelf stable/low cal food to take with me. The thing is - it is expensive and I couldn't keep up with all the food they sent (i.e. don't plan on eating anything except what they send.) The food I picked was pretty good, although some of the portions were a little bit small and some of the snacks a little bland. It suited my purpose while I was traveling, but I prefer to cook/eat what I am in the mood for - not what I have - ya know. :) In my expereince, if you eat what you order, you will lose weight. :)
I did NS in 2004-05 for about 8 months. I lost weight, but not without health consequences.
The entire program is soy based, and is not the best program for women. Many women on the NS boards complained of breast pain/tenderness, lumps, plateaus that last way longer than they should, and other "female" problems, after being on the program for so long. I also experienced this. I didn't know it at the time, but the foods all contained gluten, and I have a gluten sensitivity. I also had an abnormal mammogram. I improved over time once I got off the diet.
The last four months I was on the program, I lost almost no weight at all.
I did Nutrisystem with my mom back in the 90s, when you still went to a center to weigh in and bought packets of stuff to mix with water or diet soda. (I remember the chocolate pudding tasted good with sugar-free, caffeine-free diet Coke.)
But at that time, you ate real food for the most part. It was puffed wheat or rice cereal with skim milk and 4 oz. grapefruit juice for breakfast; chicken, baked potato and broccoli for lunch and the same for dinner, with at least one supplement pack (jell-o, pudding or broth) a day. You also were required to drink 2 32-ounce glasses of water and could only have caffeine-free diet pop.
I lost weight. That's why I was under 200 pounds when I went to college. But it was boring, eating the same thing all the time.
The food was disgusting, even when I doctored it with all of the recipes I found all over the 'net. I was hungry a LOT, especially after breakfast, which was tiny compared to what I need to eat. It also gave me TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE gas that nearly drove my dh out of the house!
Good to know. I think I am much better off continuing with WW. It is a better plan because I can learn how to balance what I eat with REAL food in my REAL life.
Susan, that gas you describe was from the soy.... and EVERYBODY on the plan got it! Oh, lord, I could have lived without that side effect!!! LOL.....
As for the food, for me, the taste was not all that bad. Some things were terrible, and I never ordered them again (like the crisps...ugh). Most things were palatable, especially when doctored up a bit. Even if the plan were gluten free, I would never repeat it again. It was quite expensive, especially considering that you still must buy other foods to complete the daily requirements, and the huge amounts of soy wreak havoc not only on the bowels, but women's health, as well. If you must do a plan, WW is the way to go, in my opinion. Teaches portion control and proper nutrition, is cheap, and can be done anywhere, and can be adapted to any dietary restrictions, as well as peer support.
