Blog to Lose

No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!

Okay, I don't know if I'm the only one, but every year before school starts, I have bad dreams about school.

Last week, I dreamed that I didn't make enough copies for the first day, my students were terrible, and that I ran out of desks.

This week I dreamed that I had this student again from last year who was really snobby. He said something really mean, and I hit him..not very hard. I was totally freaking out, crying, and worrying that I was going to lose my job. Oddly enough, the kid then preceeded to tell me that he was sorry for all he had done WEIRD!

Last year, I dreamed that I had this one bad class over again. I was going to the office to tell them that I could NOT have that class again.

I've been having day-mares. You know, the thoughts that come creeping in while you're doing something else and they really freak you out? Well, I've already picked out my outfit for the first day of school (I know, I'm a dork). It's a cream-colored silky blouse and black pants. Well, I keep having these awful scenarios pop into my head, like I'll be wiping off the dry-erase board and I'll get the ink all over my blouse; or, since I have lunch supervision, some kid will walk by me, trip, and the lunch will land all over my blouse. I think I'm going to bring in an extra shirt in case something actually does happen. This way, I won't freak out anymore!

You're not a dork. I have my first day outfit picked out too. It's a really important day. That's a good idea about the extra clothes. You could also get one of those Tide pens to keep at school for small problems. During my first year of teaching, I used to get dry erase marker on my face, and it would look like I had been beaten up. It must have been something about the overhead because I didn't have that problem this past year.

I definitely have a Tide Pen going with me! I also really like the Shout wipes. Hmmm, I need to pick up some more of those!

For some reason, even after 8 years, I have feelings like, "I hope I still have it in me" - as if I might just forget how to teach! I think it's normal to have butterflies at the start of every school year. It means that you care and want to do a good job. I can't help but think that the teachers who don't get these feelings are the ones you really wouldn't want teaching your own kids.

Just a theory.

Have a great day planning, and a great day OP!

Okay, had my first teaching dream last night. I was standing in front of the class, writing on the chalkboard, and for some reason, the chalk would not show up on the board. It was like the board was wet (but it wasn't). So I moved over to the dry-erase board I have (it's big, but not attached to the wall so I can move it). I picked it up and it shrunk to one of those little dry erase boards you stick on your door in college. So I'm writing on it, and for some reason my handwriting becomes worse and worse. It gets to the point where I can't even read what I'm writing. The kids are complaining and I'm getting flustered....then I woke up!

LOL. I think the teaching dreams are funny. I always have them before a semester starts. My first semester of teaching I had them throughout the whole semester (and that was the worst semester of my life...I almost quit). They weren't funny then!! I had a lot in March/April when I decided to teach full-time. They haven't started for me yet, but they will...I know they will. I still have two weeks before school starts.
