So all of us have funny stories about our kids/parents/co-teachers that no one finds as funny as other teachers. In the spirit of being able to stay sane through all the stress of teaching, share your funny moments here.
Yesterday, a 3rd grader was helping me dispense paint from these big gallon jugs of tempera paint with a pump. She was holding the cup thinking the green paint would go straight down into the dixie cup... it went straight out all over her face and in her mouth. I have to say it was about the funniest thing ever. I couldn't help but laugh. She did too, and I saw her later and she was fine. She managed to only get a tiny dot of it on her clothes. Thankfully, the paint is non-toxic. LOL.
Two days a week we sing songs for reading fluency. Yesterday I decided to "score" them as a game. Each team could earn points for their reading and for their audience participation. Once the first group finished one of my boys said: "Can we score them too, like with the little circles with the numbers on them when people dance." I was a little confused for a minute...until I realized what he was talking about...apparently Dancing With the Stars is a favorite at his house.
For some reason this year my school has been WAY crazy on the professional development--meaning, the teachers have been out a lot and had subs. Of course when I'm gone my kids always ask why I wasn't there. The easiest way to explain it to 7 year olds is that even as adults we still need to learn, so we go to meetings to learn how to be better teachers. I guess I have been out one too many days because one of my students came up to me today and said "I really think you already are a good teacher. Are you sure you have to go to that meeting tomorrow?"
