Hi Ladies~ We've been homeschooling for 11 years, obviously it's working for us! The problem is...I spend so much time and energy homeschooling that my health (and weight) has taken the backseat. Today I'm saying "No more!" This school year will be different. There are lots of places we can hike, bike and walk near our home and isn't good eating habits part of what my kids need to know?!? Wish me luck, I'm on my way!
That's awesome that you have homeschooled for 11yrs. We are just getting started. Good Luck as you start. It sounds liek it's about time for you time. :)
This is our second full year home schooling (my son is 12) and we love it. I have him help me fix our meals and use that time to talk about healthy eating habits. It goes a long way to making me more aware of what I'm eating.
This is my first year of homeschooling. It is quite a challenge. We just started a little over a week ago. My kids are still trying to adjust. I can get them to sit at the table and do their work, but after awhile all I hear is "it's too hard". I need lots more patience. We are using A Beka books. I still need some more books. I'm waiting on some from Ebay, but then I will have to place the rest of my order with A beka. Trying to cut costs the best I can. For now, I'm pretty much using free internet math worksheets for my 6th grader (who also has ADHD). My 3rd grader is doing his math from his books. We have Bible reading, journal time, and math. I will be so glad when we can get started with the real books. I will at least feel like I am doing something. I think the kids are bored and just uninterested in what I have to say. Or they are asking me how to do problems, i.e. step by step assurance to get the right answer, instead of using their head and working the problem on their own. (sigh) Yeah. What have I gotten myself in to.
Homeschooling is a lot of work but has definite perks. Are there any homeschool groups in your area? Cincinnati has many and they have been life-savers for me! My daughters and I have met many friends that "get" the homeschool mentality. We go on field trips together and share some of our studies. For example there is a small group of us meeting once a week for History, Science and Writing. It helps to have other Mom's pitching in with lesson plans, etc. Good Luck!
