Blog to Lose

No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!

Any good tips for surviving the holidays the low-carb way? It's going to be my first holiday season in a long time without the feasting-as-usual. My husband and I did this way back in 2003, so I know it's doable, but I'd still love to know how others cope.

I think our biggest help in 2003 was finding some sugar-free goodies that we liked. I made a horrible pumpkin cheesecake (low carb) that year at Thanksgiving, which killed my desire to try holiday baking. We did enjoy some sugar-free goodies. At the time, there weren't as many out there (love the sugar-free York peppermint patties but can't eat too many! ;-P), but the Judy's Candies English toffee, peanut brittle, and caramels were pretty decent. I'm looking forward to trying Enstrom's and See's sugar-free offerings this year; anyone tried them yet? I'm afraid I'll like them too much and have the dreaded...er...side effects.

UPDATE: I got a box of the Enstrom's sugar-free toffee for Christmas!!! Oh.My.GAHD!!! That stuff is great. But be warned: unless you want a maltitol master cleanse, be careful and consume in 1 oz. increments.

I also found some really tasty Swiss candies by maker Halter. I tried the caramel and green apple hard candies, and they're very satisfying. You wouldn't know they were sugar free.
