Blog to Lose

No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!

Hi -

Anyone interested in an exercise challenge? I was thinking of something that we should be doing anyway. Challenge: do at least 30 min of aerobic activity 3 or more times a week for the next 5 weeks (until June 20, the start of summer).

Okay- we have few in the game now. Let's start on Monday May 26, memorial Day. Instead of picking a particular end date, let's just reset the game on the first of every month. We can make it a simple game. Starting memorial day, you get one point for each instance of 30+ minutes of exercise. So if you workout for 1 hour -- that is one point. If you later that day go for a 30min run, that is another point. This First game will end on June 30.

So keep track of your own score and post it as often as you like!

Question: Do you want to include any kind our solid exercise, or just aerobic? I chose that because I know that I need to get more cardio.

So...game on :)

I may not do too well in the next while, but the good news is that I should get better.

As for the question - I think that lifting weights should count, not that I'll be doing that very soon. I'm adding it in for the long term. But all kinds of exercise should really count, as long as it's intense. Aerobic, enough to make you sweat. Weights, enough to make you hurt.

As to that...do we count mowing the lawn and such? It took me an hour and a half on Saturday (I have a large lawn, and a non-self-propelled mower...) and it was rather exhausting. So...do these kinds of things count?

I'm willing to join this challenge. I may be a bit late, but I definitely need more activity in my life.

Never to late. Glad to have you.

Some have asked about what constitutes exercise...I think it would be a good idea if we keep it personal. Everyone can can argue what was actual exercise. So just keep track of your own workouts and report on them here.

My plan is to make only gym/running/biking workouts part of my exercise. I am playing softball and I work in the yard, but I figure that I am trying to exercise more and get in better shape so that I can do those other things without any stress and wearing myself out. I also play racquetball when I get the chance - but that is actually very cardio intensive so I am going to count that as exercise.

This week I have only worked out one day in the guy. I did about 1 mile on the treadmill (walk/run intervals) and I did the bike for 3+ miles for a total of about 30 min. I did a few back exercises on the nautilus machines and then I stretched. We have a ton going on this weekend, starting with my T-ball for my son tomorrow morning, so I hope to get at least a bike ride in this weekend.

I hope everyone else is doing well.

I try to do at least 30 minutes a day so this will help me focus on that. So count me in as well starting tomorrow.

I did my 30 minutes today and I am going to get another 30 minutes in as well later on the elliptical.

Glad to see some guys here too.

Ok just to let everyone know I have been doing 30 minutes or more everyday, except for last Friday, of active exercise. I was on a plane to Puerto Rico and my time was real short that day. And it payed off in WI today. I am down 1.6 lbs. With what I have been eating for the past 10 days it would have been a gain if I was not so active.
