I have recently gotten more active on a Yahoo board called the "Food and Feelings" group. It is a bunch of people who are working toward Normal Eating. I thought I would invite everyone there to join the discussion. Right now they are working through the Food and Feelings Workbook by Karen Koenig and she facilitates the board so you can get some really great feedback.

I don't know if this link will work but give it a try:

I got back to basics today and started conciously listening to my body. I was trying to Beck Diet Solution and although I like it, I have been feeling more stressed about my process. I truly, truly believe that normal eating is my best option. I have been learning some valuable tactics through Beck and a lot of the philosophy is the same but there is much less emphasis on the belief work which I feel is integral to my success. There is almost NO emphasis on trusting yourself and your body which is even more integral to my success. So I am going to finish Beck but the biggest thing I have learned so far is that normal eating is truly where I should focus most of my attention.

Welcome to the group Noelle and Sandra! This is a very long journey, definitely not a quick fix but it is a longer lasting fix than just dieting.

I was thinking about starting The Beck Diet Solution by Judith Beck if anyone is interested. It's related to the concepts in Normal Eating and can be used with any diet you choose. This would be for anyone who has tried and failed in dieting for a long time, anyone who continues to struggle having success on a diet.

I am going to start another group for this since it's not exactly the same. Hope you will all join me!

Haven't checked in in a while, I was wondering how everyone was doing! I have decided in the new year to make more of an effort with active weight loss...I think I am finally ready!

Just wondering, too, is anyone giving anything up for lent? I use a small "l" because I am not exactly religious but I am Catholic so I can still officially give something up for lent, right? I am thinking Diet Coke...or make that ALL SODA!!! Next week I will officially give up soda for lent. I would love to hear if anyone else is doing anything.

I don't have the book but I agree with the concept (and will need to find the book).

Jen, it is very important to me (in legalizing) to really pay close attention to how the food tastes AND how I feel after eating it. Honestly, there are many foods I've denied myself for years that I found I never really cared to eat again -- just about anything from HOstess, most store-bought cookies, many kinds of ice cream, any cake with store-bought frosting...I could go on and on.

When I really tasted the foods, I found that many things tasted very artificial, chemical-y, greasy, etc. I also found that I felt awful after eating some of them -- tired, jittery, anxious, etc. I noticed that on a day when I ate --say a package of Twinkies -- I was okay, but the next day I'd feel tired, draggy, and want to eat a bunch more sugar. I decided I'd rather not ever eat a Twinkie again if it is going to make me feel that way.

Hi group!

Well, this looks like exactly where I belong. Thanks Janice and earlier Tanie for mentioning this group and leaving comments on my posts...this is exactly how I want to train myself to eat for life. No special diets - just normal food the normal way. Looking forward to it!
