Blog to Lose

No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!

I enjoyed running when I was young, but it has been years since I've done it regularly. I am hoping that I can get back into it and possibly make it part of my daily life. . I like to be outdoors (minus allergies) and it's free (compared to a gym membership). Any tips for the New Kid on the Block??

I have been running for about 4 months now... my biggest advice is to stretch! I didn't for the first 2 months and ended up with a pulled hamstring. Now for 10 minutes after every run I do a quick stretch, it really helps.

I started running last January and could barely run 3km without my knees burning. I joined a running clinic through the running room and successfully completed a 5km and 10 km race and then went on to train for a half marathon in August. I never thought I could ever run this far in my life! Each week i ran progressively further distances and what I realized is that nothing is impossible. My biggest advice for anyone taking up running is to build up mileage very slowly and be consistent with it. For me this meant traing for something. I have always had trouble sticking with any exercise program but I enjoyed having a goal to work toward. Unfortunately with the cooler weather and darker nights I haven't been going consistently and feel really out of shape right now but i am starting a half marathon clinic tomorrow night. Hopefully having a group of people to run with will make the cold and dark more bearable! I hope you can get back into it. It is so worth it!
