WHAT WENT RIGHT IN 2008?
• I finally hit the 50-pounds-lost mark.
• Attended WW meetings regularly.
• Fit back into a size 12.
• Settled on a mantra that works pretty well for me: "One day — one choice — at a time."
• Started tracking what I eat more consistently.
• My blog has developed quite the following. :D
WHAT STILL NEEDS TO CHANGE?
• I don't get in all my water consistently.
• More movement — I don't exercise as much as I should.
• I tend to forget to take my daily multivitamin.

WHAT I WANT TO CONTINUE IN 2009
• Exercising (I'm thinking about checking into the cost of Curves.)
• Tracking every bite, every day (It's when I don't write it down that I get off track.)
• Losing weight (I want to get to my WW goal weight by June 1 — or sooner!)
WHAT I WANT TO CHANGE
• Letting the Boyfriend influence my food choices (This is the biggie!)
• Eating so much fast food
• My clothing size (I want to fit back into my size 8 jeans!)
• Weight (WW goal is 170 ... personal goal 160)
WHAT I WANT TO IMPROVE ON
• Getting in eight 8-ounce glasses of water (or sugar-free flavored water) a day
• Exercising consistently (I especially need to focus on strength work. I'm not bad at the cardio requirement already. But I need to move more all around. Some weeks I'm good at working out regularly, and others I'm really very lazy.)

About Me:
Arlene is an Arizona journalist who has had to battle with her weight since about fifth grade. She lost 105 pounds in two years on Atkins, but regained about 70 of those pounds after meeting her boyfriend, a carb freak. She joined WW in August 2007 and has lost 61 pounds since then. Slow and steady wins the race, right?

Current weight: 184.8 (as of Sept. 9, 2009)

I have not heard of this carb lovers diet. Is it similiar to McDougall diet? I found success cutting the fat & choosing good carbs.

I'm calling my first day on the CarbLovers Diet a success. The food was tasty and filling, and I ate only 26 Points without craving snacks.

I made a decision

Surprisingly — or not — I'm not going to go back to Atkins. I'm also not exactly going to continue with WW.

No, I've decided to spend a month tracking and counting Points while I follow the Health magazine editors' new CarbLovers Diet. I read the magazine article about the diet before I left on vacation, and stopped at Barnes & Noble to look through the book this morning. I liked what I saw.

Trying to decide

I have two more days of vacation, and despite my plans to make the best of it, I've found myself overindulging more often than I'd like. But once I'm home, I'm committing to a plan.



Problem is, I can't decide which plan to commit to. My longtime friends here know I've done both Atkins and Weight Watchers. Atkins helped me lose nearly 110 pounds in two years (getting about 9 pounds from my goal) ... but I started to regain weight when I met the Boyfriend and fell off the low-car

Blogging fool seeking balance

I've been a busy, busy blogger lately. Over at Adventures in Weight Loss, I've been putting up up to two posts a day.

And — surprise — I'm getting more readers! (Yay!) Guess it really does just take consistency. That's like so many other things in life, eh? Consistency is key.

Arlene--I saw your comment about the book Passing for Thin--the funniest thing is that this afternoon I ended up on a blog where they were talking about how she gained 1/2 of her weight back. She wrote a book with four other women called Angry Fat Chicks. I was kind of shocked!

Hi Arlene. I'm glad you like the new profile pic. I was a little nervous to change it but I am glad I did! Don't worry about what that scale says. You know why it says what it says. The important thing is that you only took a month off ~ not a year like me. Now let's get this thing going like we did back in the day. :)
