About Me:
Early 30s graduate student -- you wouldn't believe what a few years with your butt glued to a library chair can do to your body! After a few "that can't be ME!?!" pics and a minor health scare, I'm working off the 75ish lbs that have come between me and enjoying life.

(The picture? That's me sucking down on 44oz of water ... or diet coke ... one or the other, usually all day long :)

Plan of Choice:
Weight Watchers
Website/Blog:
http://phitness.wordpress.com
Workout Philosophy:
I'm a gym rat ALL the way, I'm a Running Fanatic, I love lifting weights

Nifty, nifty ...

... I'm down fifty (pounds, that is :) Despite the so-so week and the big-loss-WI last week, the scale moved -- and there was much rejoicing.

Between us, though -- what do you do with your 25lb and 50lb discs? I've got mine on my 10% keychain but can't think of any other uses for it. Happy weekend, everyone -- best of luck to all weigher-iners!

Rewards (... for that eventual, still distant "goal" experience ;)

Let me start off by saying that I'm not a fashionista. Most of my "good" clothes harken back to the good old days -- anywhere from 5-10 years ago. Just yesterday, I was complimented on my (apparently very in-style) wedge sandals ... which, really, I've owned since the last time they went out of style, about six years ago.

That being said, a colleague of mine appeared at school yesterday in a pair of great-looking jeans. This woman's body is not all that different from my own, and while she's ge… Continue

The official so-so week.

It's been a so-so week, weight-wise: I've been over points by just a couple a few times, I've had one great workout on Tuesday and anticipate another one tomorrow, but overall my life's been swallowed up by the week of hecticness (tm). Take today, for example: Up at 5am, leave the house by 7:15am, get to school at 8:00am, teach or observe from 8:30 to 11:00am, lunch meeting, followed by half-hour drive across town to take an exam at 2:00am, return to campus for a seminar at 4:15am, which I have… Continue

Goal: Weight?

The very nice lady who looked to be somewhere in her early 60s and who had, according to her nametag, lost 90 lbs in 2001 pointed out an odd fact to me today: According to my WW-recorded height, I am only 4lbs from the top of my goal-range. Let me first clarify the height-thing: I'm 5ft5-and-1/2 (... as a relative "shortie", that half-inch is important to me ;) WW measures me at 5ft6, my doctor leans more towards 5ft5 and change. So, while the top of the 5ft5 range is still 9 lbs away, as far as… Continue

150s!

I was thinking before my weekly WI this morning that this was hopefully going to be my last week in the 160s -- but instead, I slid right into the 150s, leaving me only 1lb away from a 50lb total loss. Woo-woo! (... of course, given the sizable loss this week, it'll probably take me another couple of weeks to get rid of that one pound. That seems to be Murphy's law of weight loss.)

I'm down another weekly point, but I'm hugely grateful and gratified, particularly since it looks like I've found… Continue

Thanks for thinking of me and checking up on me. Due to my disgustingly busy schedule, I can't seem to find the time to blog (and this site is blocked at work) so I do check it out every now and then and think of you guys often! Hope you are doing well!

Thanks! I felt pretty darn hot when I put that outfit on, too ... Contrast that with a couple of days later, when I put on a pair of size 16 capri pants from the Gap and they fit practically perfectly ...

But then I remember that back in April (or was it March?) I could barely squeeze into those same capri pants ... I put them on and got them buttoned and zipped but opted not to wear them out in public because they gave me the most hideous muffin top!

Let's do this. There's a new group, started by J.Ross, for people who were inspired by Tanya's blog to get to goal (or pretty darn near) by Christmas ...

I bought the chicken and mozzarella meatballs at Sam's Club. It was a while ago, though ... I just unearthed them in the big freezer!

this is very interesting. My husband studies Classics, ancient philosophy. He got a scholarship to come study at Cambridge right after undergrad. He did well in the mphil and decided to stay on for the phd. His original scholarship ran out after 2 years, but he's scrapped together funding for the last 2 years. Otherwise, I agree--it's much easier to get funding in the states.
Cambridge is a good place to study Classics, but all the connections that he's making are in the UK not in the US.
Are you English?

ah, my husband is in the final year of his phd and hoping to submit within the next couple of months! Honsestly, finishing the phd seems to be easy in comparison to getting a job in academia.
I hope that your phd goes well. It's such a long trek!

Seems like it may well be an uphill climb rather than coasting... but it is sure nice to have a friend alongside me :)

I'm hoping that's the case. When I lost the majority of my weight, I pretty much consistently lost 2 pounds a week. Then I had to start walking a lot to see a loss. Then I pretty much stayed the same for several months even though I was still doing the same. I got off track and gained some, and the weight I gained has come off pretty easily. I've been living in fear that once I've lost what I've gained, it'll be slow going again.
