About Me:
I am a graduate student and Library Assistant at the U of MN. I have TONS of hobbies including: beading, knitting, sewing, bookbinding, watercolor painting, writing, obsessive movie watching, and reading. My boyfriend (the guy in the picture with me) and I have been together a little over 1 1/2 years. We met online (so I'm a firm believer that the internet can bring good things!) and have been mostly happy with each other ever since! The manfriend has a kitty named Carter and soon we will have a small school of fish swimming around our TV room! The manfriend is an avid saltwater fish connoisseur. I let him have the fish - he lets me decorate the rest of the apartment! :)

I've been overweight since before I even started school. The first time I remember being conscious of my weight was in 4th grade. I have always been very ashamed of my weight. I tie so much of my self-worth and self-esteem into how I look, that this journey is not going going to be one about changing the way I eat and frequency of exercise, but it's also going to be a healing journey. During high school I reached my present goal weight and maintained it for about a year before I slowly began to regain the weight. Unfortunately, I not only regained the 50 lbs. that I lost, I gained another 75 pounds on top of it. I think the reason I gained the weight back was because I didn't lose it for the right reasons in the first place! I was desperate to fit in and that was motivation enough to push me to the point of starving myself and working out like a maniac. After I realized that I wasn't going to be a different person no matter what size jeans I wore, I slowly gained the weight back. It's been a difficult road so far, but I think I'm ready to make some real changes in my life. I'm addressing my psychological issues with weight (an a slew of other things!) and now I'm going to try eating healthy and working out to see if I can give myself a make-over - mind and body!

9 New Things for 2009
9. Officially start my grad program (Done!!!)
8. Try to go on some sort of vacation (Seattle or NYC)
7. Get to my goal weight and stay there!
6. Wear contacts (tried, don't like them!)
5. Avoid dark hair colors for at least 6 months!
4. Eat my daily allotment of veggies
3. Stop being a hermit
2. Quit "secret" smoking
1. Start REALLY pursuing my hobbies
0. Find out who the final cylon is. Man, I have become one boring nerd! DONE! Boy, that one was easy!
Plan of Choice:
Low Fat, Low Carb, High Fiber
Workout Philosophy:
I loath exercice, I only exercise because I have to

My Goals

Short Term
-lose first 10% by the end of 2008 (26 lbs = 234 lbs.) :(
-start exercising at least 30 minutes 3x a week (keep this up for a month before I cross it off)
-lose half of my goal weight loss by my birthday in April. Total loss 62.5 lbs = 197.5 lbs



Long Term
-To maintain healthy eating habits instead of constantly switching diets and pant sizes
-Become a gym regular (ugh!)
-Get down to my goal weight of 145 pounds by the end of 2009.

Hello everyone! I hope you have all been well! I have been SO busy, so I apologize for my disappearance. So, I have some news!

I got accepted to grad school!! I'm so excited to be accepted and I've already started research for my masters thesis! I love the work that I'm doing - it's totally nerdy, but I have come to accept my nerdiness! I'm studying science fiction (yeah, really nerdy).

goodbye holiday weight!

So, I cheated and weighed myself a day early (I'll WI officially tomorrow), but good new! My 8 lbs of Christmas/New Years fat is gone!!! I'm actually a little shocked. I've been eating healthy the past few days, but I have had a few indulgences. The manfriend and I made the HG peanut butter fudge and we've been eating a bit too much! trying to get back on the wagon

I didn't anticipate how difficult it would be to start eating healthy again after spending time in Michigan for Christmas! I ate some healthy substitute meals instead of our usual staples, but I really did overindulge. At one point I was up 8 lbs! Luckily at my last WI I'm only up 3. the holidays

Oh my, did I fall off the wagon over the holiday! I don't know how much I gained, but I'm sure I gained some! I went back to Michigan to visit my family. We did have quite a few WW friendly meals, but I still indulged in many of my favorites. I rarely get back to Michigan, so I'm not going to beat myself up for it. I KNOW! Mine fall over too... makes me so mad... I make extra cause I know a few will fall over... and try to fix them halfway through the baking... last night I thought maybe they do that because I put too much water on them. My grandma had a thicker cookie sheet and they baked fine... I like the part skim ricotta with just mini choco chips. How do you make your filling?
