Blog to Lose

No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!

Y'all have probably already seen this post on the Weight Watchers Web site, about why slow weight loss is better.

Well, as you know I've been struggling with losing slowly — especially in the last few weeks, so this article couldn't have come at a better time for me. It was a nice reminder of why this time will be the last time I have to lose massive amounts of weight.

Sure, the weight came off a lot more quickly when I was doing Atkins. I lost 100 pounds in the first 52 weeks. Here at WW, I lost 45.6 pounds in 52 weeks — and 0.6 of them came back in Week 53. :P

But when I fell off the low-carb wagon, it took me 2 years to re-gain 70 of the 110 pounds I'd lost ... so I can't expect to take it off again overnight.

The key, I guess, is in the last section of the article: Maintain a positive attitude. I keep telling myself that "slow and steady wins the race."

also, I just watched Roni's new video and she said that slow weight loss helps with skin elasticity! Another positive of losing slowly.

You and I are totally on the same wavelength with this whole slow loss thing. But it's so true. I keep having to tell myself, slow and steady is so much better. And I do think honestly, at every 10 pound increment, I'm learning to maintain that weight and although small, healthier habits are formed to keep in that range. Go us! We are steady! :) I just figured my average loss per week over the last 21 weeks and it's just barely over 1 pound a week, but if I continue losing/keeping off 1 pound a week, in a years time I'll have off 52 pounds. That is approximately 179 pounds, which is what I weighed about the time I got married 7 years ago. Wow. Arlene and Kellie, keep on keeping on. :)

DEFINITELY true!!! Losing weight slowly not only helps us keep that weight off, because we are doing it the "correct" way, but also, it gives your body/skin/etc. time to adjust and hopefully shrink with you!

One of the hallmark personality traits of those of us with weight problems is that we want instant gratification, even with our weight loss. Maybe the fact that it has to be done slowly is another tool we can use to get out of that "instant" frame of mind, for long term maintenance results... and perhaps generally a more patient, happier frame of mind in life :-)

Slow and steady - I know that many WW leaders actually scold people if they lose more than 1-3 lbs. per week because it's just not healthy for the ol' body. And we want healthy - that's the key. Not about numbers - HEALTH. Even though your numbers have been stubborn and not budged lately, I would bet your measurements have been changing in a positive way.

Slow and steady definitley wins the race. It's a life change, and that can't be done over night. I would love to see major drops on the scale, but I know it isn't reasonable to keep up the big losses. I shoot for 1 lb per week...totally dooable...I think. :)

I like that article. I am one who would rather have a quick fix but I know the healthiest way to do it is by taking it slow. Thanks for sharing.

So, I just read it. I do think WW is something you can do for life, and I like how the weight loss is at a nice pace--lets me kind of get used to a new weight, amount of food, etc... I know part of why I am not thin is fear about being thin, so fo rme, the weight loss needs to be slow and steady. Sometimes I get a little nervous about how little food I will be eating when I get to a goal weight, but watching Roni's latest video about maintenance eased my concern--you get to add in some points and still have the flex and activity points.

I need to hear this over and over and over again- but I think we all do. Quick results is the game of the day for most people- but in weight loss, it's really not the best way. We all know it took years to put on this weight, or years to maintain at a certain high weight - it won't come off overnight and it is better for our bodies to do it slowly anyway- our hearts, skin, lungs (etc) had to slowly adjust as we added the weight- they have to slowly adjust while we take the weight off.
