Blog to Lose

No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!

Happy Monday everyone!

WoW- my weekend was busy!! The 5k was such a great experience! I feel like I've learned so much about myself these past few months, and what I can truly handle (which is pretty much anything!) It was about 80deg with very little wind - YIKES! But I made it through! AND I made it under my goal of 45 minutes!! I was so proud of myself that I started crying. I'm still a bit sore, but ready to take on the next challenge. The next 5k I'm registered for is in October, for the Susan G Koman Foundation's "Race for The Cure" in Des Moines. I'm hoping to make a 35min goal =)

My dad was there at the finish line to give me a big sweaty hug - it meant so much to me =) He's a natural runner, Mr. Marathon I call him, and it worked out really nicely that his 20k got done about 30 minutes before the 5k started. He was able to take pictures of everything!

The heat really got to me during the first mile - it was winding through our downtown area with all the heat trapped and reflecting from the buildings. Once we got past the first mile and by the river, it was much better. After all was said and done, I think I ran about 2.75k out of the 3.1k ... pretty good I think! My time was 42.32 =) Here are some pictures for all of you - - I can't thank you ENOUGH for the support you've given me. I also posted a video at the end that I made right after the race - my attempt at a little "vlog" for you!

(OH, I just got my iPod touch in the mail today. I can't WAIT to start the Nike system! Here's to the next 5k and many more after it!)

Me and my dad, right after he finished his 20k. His time was 1:30 (not bad for a 56yr old who's been running for 35 years!)

LOTS of people were there. We set a record number this year, which was the Dam to Dam's 30th anniversary! It's the larget 20k in the NATION! The first year there were 375 runners in the 5k. This year, over 6,000! Total participants with the 5k included is around 11,000!

And I'm off! I decided to start off my run with "Hey Mama" by the Black Eyed Peas. Such a good beat!

DONE! Trying not to look like I can't breathe, lol. Thank god for the water and bomb pops! I was so happy to have finished strong. My playlist was perfect, ending with Christina Aguilera's "Fighter" "Makes me that much stronger, Makes me work a little bit harder, Makes me that much wiser, So thanks for making me a fighter"

And finally, MOST IMPORTANTLY, my shout out to all of you. I apologize in advance, I got a little emotional ;) I was in the parking garage on my way home. Even though I look a hot mess, I start crying, and I'm just a general DORK (hah) I've never felt more beautiful, strong, and genuine. This is me!

Oh geesh, hah. Anyways, I hope you all have a wonderful day! I woke up this morning and made the best crustless quiches (I'll have to post the recipe!) with lots of veggies. I haven't looked at the scale yet (go me!) and am hoping to start back on my routine for working out tomorrow. I need to start swimming so badly. That's my goal for the week, to get to the pool just once, just to get in the habit!!

Take care, and I'll see you in my next post on Wednesday!

I know you feel great about yourself, and you should. I felt good after my first one too...it felt the same as when i got married, i knew it was happening, but on our drive away from the church, I asked him..."did we just do that?". LOL. I am excited to see what you do next, cause I know and YOU know that you can do anything now! Thank you so much for sharing such a deeply personal moment with us. You go girl!

I LOVE your post! As someone who is starting the process going from walking to running this week, I am scared and uncomfortable, but seeing your post made me want to do it that much more. THANK YOU. And congrats on completing your 5k!!!
