So I'm wrapping up day 3 of being on program. So far, so good. The past two days I was a little bit below my points allowance (admittedly, I was recovery from flying back from the west coast and spent a lot more time sleeping. I figure if I slept through breakfast it's OK I didn't use those points.)
Today I did discover a nice tasty snack. I went to the store hungry (big no-no, but I only picked up healthy snacks like veggies and a couple items I wasn't able to get earlier this week. Who would believe that the return of all the undergraduate students would cause the store to run out of cauliflower and scallions?? Apparently it does, in case you were wondering!) Anyway, I was trying to figure out some good higher protein, low point foods that I can use as snacks and stumbled across Primal Foods soy jerky. They were pricey, but a friend mentioned she liked them when she was a vegetarian back in the day, so I decided to give them a shot. (Nutrition info for the "Hickory" flavor: 99 calories, 3 g fat, 1 g fiber, 10- yes, TEN- g protein- 2 WW points) Turns out they are pretty tasty!! I wouldn't go so far as to say they are as good as real jerky, but they definitely aren't shabby (though a bit pricey). I think I might keep a few on hand for emergency hunger situation. You know, those times you're ready to just raid the fridge for whatever contents it might hold....
In other news, I get to go to Texas this weekend! Since Indiana will be getting sub-zero wind chills these next few days, the warmer weather is going to be fantastic! I'm visiting an old high school friend and another high school friend is going to be driving in from Dallas. I still think it's a little crazy a group of west coast natives are having a reunion in Texas, but such is life. Since I know I"ll probably be eating out and possibly sharing a beer or two, I made sure I stayed within my daily points each day so I could have all of my 35 points available this weekend for me to use. I think I'm going to ask my roommate if I can borrow her dining out companion guide from her WW starter pack as well. I weigh-in on Monday and don't want to ruin a week's work with a bad weekend. (I think Monday is the perfect day for me to weigh in. It keeps me motivated to make good decisions over the weekend when I'm most likely to eat out or get drinks with friends, while also serving as a reminder to take the extra effort during weekdays, even when I might be really tempted to grab a burger and fries prior to studying.)
I think that's all for today. I still have quite a bit of schoolwork to get done for the evening. I still have 2 points, so I was thinking about having some nice sugar-free cocoa while hashing out environmental economics (though I'd rather be watching Grey's re-runs....)
