After reading some posts from folks on here, I thought I should read up on Atkins once again. See, I first tried this diet about 15 years ago and was going to retry just the induction phase now to jump start my diet-journey. Well, after reading up on the new and improved Atkins diet, I think it's actually something I can stick with long-term. This excites me. I was initially going on the premise of the induction phase (Phase 1) from long ago that you should try and eat NO carbs for the first two weeks. Now it's 20 carbs. So I went from cheating on the old induction phase, to staying way within my carb limits per today's Atkins plan! Yay! And the recipes on the Atkins website look awesome!
Today I had a traditional southern breakfast with 4 pieces of thick bacon, an egg fried in bacon grease and a 6-carb piece of Very Thin Pepperidge farm bread. C'mon, I HAVE to have something to sop up the egg yolk with. Granted, I don't love breakfast so much I can do this everyday, but it's good to have it every now and then and know I'm not ruining some other diet.
Yesterday, I actually ate out and I think I did pretty good. We went to Longhorn Steakhouse and I had a 7oz. filet mignon (no carbs there) with a side of steamed asparagus with butter, plus a bowl of french onion soup. I didn't eat the bread that was in the soup, mostly just the cheese & broth. It was the first time I'd been "stuffed" since starting the diet. And I toyed with getting a skewer of grilled shrimp, but actually forgot to order it. Glad I forgot. It would have been in the doggy box coming home!
Tonight for dinner, we are frying chicken in flaxseed meal (going to add some spices in there) and cooking cabbage with hot pepper flakes. The cabbage is something I grew up on so it's nothing new. The chicken will be an experiment. At the store, I couldn't decide between the flaxseed meal or soy flour. I'll end up trying them both, I'm sure.
And I added a multi-vitamin to my supplement regimen (my supplement regimen is simply a green tea supplement that gives me energy during the day. I only take it if I'm up before noon because it will keep me up at night - sometimes I work well into the night, so sometimes I sleep quite late!)
So I'm excited about the possibilities!
