Blog to Lose

No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!

I am up 11lbs since Sept. 2006. I know why---but have re focused and am following WW. Since maintaining my weight for so many years 5 lbs was the most I would go up during the holidays but this started before the holidays. Enough with the why-

The reason for my post-----I came home from Spin class--I am the instructor----I wanted to add this because I should know better. I wear my heart rate monitor and it said I burned just about 700 calories--GO ME! Tonight my husband made dinner--and I came in the door starving-----You are wondering what he made for dinner---HOMEMADE WAFFLES----and sampled Chocolate Chip Waffles---and says---babe ---try there they are SO GOOD- Well with no control I downed an entire Choc. Chip one and he goes how is it---IS THAT A SILLY QUESTION. I also ate another reg. one ---and this is white flour.......He goes and you don't want to know how much fat is in one. I said why how much 13 grams with over 200 calories and I am not even FULL. WTF---sorry! Then he says to me----what that's no bad for dinner---you should have like 50 grams of fat per day. I said NO WAY.
My question is ----Is he right? I can't believe I do not know the answer ----Any thoughts.... I am sure there are others that love to eat with their loved ones but it does not help health and weight loss matters!

Christine---your comments just made me smile---I know I was making myself crazy over something so silly----I was just so happy after spin---I could have made a better choice---but I will say they were delish---I could just say--I did spinning and therefore not the worst that I indulged----better than not exercising. I can't believe I didn't know these facts I really thought it was lower---maybe as said above when following WW you tend to look for "low fat" He will be happy to know he was right--and I am impressed he was in fact on target

He's pretty close. Typically your diet should consist of 20% ish of you calories coming from fat. That being said if you're trying to lose weight obviously that number would be lower. Fat contains 9 calories per gram so if you eat 2000 calories per day, then 2000 calories per day x 20% from fat = 400 calories from fat, 400 calories per day/9 calories per gram= 44 grams. So there's your number. If you're losing weight and eating say 1500 calories per day then your diet could consist of 33 grams of fat. Obviously a little less fat would me a little more weight loss. BUt don't forget fat in an essential part of the diet.

When doing WW I found that I was eating very little fat, trying to choose foods that were lower in fat and thus lower in point value. So I consciously decided to add some fat in my diet in the form of nuts (specifically walnuts and almonds for the omega 3 and 6). So anyway. There you go. Don't beat yourself up over a couple of waffles. Everyone needs a little indulgence now and then and waffles are a darn good way to accomplish that :)

Even though I am overweight now, I used to follow low fat for a long time. You should have no more than 30% calories from fat, so if you eat 1400 cal a day, that's about 40-45 cal, 1500 cal a day 50 fat grams. He's right! Anything over 30% of calories from fat your body stores as fat.
