Weight Watchers..... is it really worth it?

So I joined this site, because I have a weight problem and I know it is weight watchers oriented and you should be on weight watchers to be on here, but I just keep asking myself... Is it really worth it?

So I need support with my wieght loss which is why I come to my virtual internet world for it because I dont have any overweight freinds to talk to or go to the gym with me. So I talk to you guys in what i like to call "my virtual world". It helps me to an extent but there is a huge difference between reality and virtual reality. So back to my question, is it worth it?

It is expensive, I am not going to lie, and what I have read all you do is weigh yourself, set a goal for next week and just talk about the experiance... Well i have my own scale, and measuring tape and i can set my own goals and I talk about it with you guys.... whats missing? OH YEA human contact!!!!

My question to all of you on here, does the human contact of actually going to a place other than your bathroom to weigh yourself and set weight goals more motivational that just going at it in isolation? ---- seems rhetorical but I'm serious.

I want to know Ill be able to keep the motivation up and stick with it before i go an pay all that money.. So to everyone on weight watchers.... is it worth it?

the answer is yes, going to meetings and weighing in on their scale makes a difference. They say those peeps keep it off. But I can't make it to meetings and am doing it on my own and am somewhat successful, some people need more accountability and the structure of meetings to be successful.

Whether you will be successful on WW or not is totally dependent on your current state of mind. If you are committed to being on a structured program and to live a healthier lifestyle, then you will succeed with OR without Weight Watchers in your life. Weight Watchers will not help you decide to lose weight or keep you on track.....it's really all about you. However, if you are the type of person that thrives on structure, enjoys set guidelines, likes to be held accountable to goals, and is motivated by group experiences, then yes, WW is worth it.

I can only speak from my personal experience, but WW was the best money I ever spent. My mom recently joined after mocking me for years, and she is now in week 7 and thriving. So will it be worth it to you? Well, only you know that.....

Good luck on your journey, whichever route you choose to take. This is a great community, and not everyone is on a program!

I have to say that I did it alone for the first 7 months of my weight loss and was very successful. You have to be in the right state of mind to do either. I know several people that still pay the money, but don't really lose weight either. I have since joined WW and attend meeting and really enjoy them. You do get good information and it is fun to meet others that are in the same boat as you are. If you are really committed to losing weight I would try it alone. I was the same way and did not want to pay the money just to step on the scale. My goal was to be a lifetime member so that I wouldn't have to pay so I lost 50 lbs on my own and then joined to lose the last 10 to be lifetime. This was just my own personal experience. Some people really do need the accountability and I really believe that in order to keep your weight off you either need to attend meetings or weigh yourself on a regular basis.

If you are determined enough and have the disipline you can do it on your own.. I did.. I have gone to 1 meeting to buy the materials then haven't gone back.. But if you do it on your own you have to be very disiplined..

You can do it on your own, but like you said it is nice to have a support system that can relate to you. I'm going to be honest I do not pay for WW, I was on it years ago but I just recalibrated my daily allowance points using Roni's generic counter and I tally my points values for my food choices using the calculator on the old site. You guys here are my support system along with my wonderful husband and I set my weigh in to every Saturday. I know this will work for me because I am determined, you have to decide what fits your lifestyle.

I use WW, but do it online. I have never been to a meeting. Since October, I've lost 30 pounds. I bought the three month package deal thing (better value), now I am charged $16.95 per month for the service. I can't account for what happens at the meetings, but know that I am successful on my own and with the motivation through the "internet world."

I have done WW both on my own and going to meetings. The first time I did it on my own I had great success and had friends at work familiar with the program to help me through. Then for two years the weight zoomed back on and I tried over and over again to do it on my own and it was not successful. Even when a couple girls from work joined meetings, I thought that their energy would be enough for me to carry on, on my own. It was not. So I bit the financial bullet and joined meetings. I am on week 19.

Do you need to go to meetings? no...everyone is different. Some are fine with online WW, some are fine with online support, some are fine with friends and family rooting them on, and some are fine on their own. If you're trying it on your own and you find you have more days of struggle than good ones, then maybe meetings are the way to go.

I think you have gotten a lot of good advice regarding WW. I just wanted to put out that I am not on WW and never have been. Like the blog title says...no matter what the plan. :) I find coming here-posting and reading very therapeutic. There is a lot of help and inspiration. Good luck with figuring out what works for you because that is the key. Jeni

Lots of people here have had amazing success with WW, so I would definitely recommend it as a good program, esp. if you are looking for more structure and accountability. However, WW isn't the only program, and if you decide to go another route, please stick around. I'm not on WW, and everyone has always been totally supportive of me. This isn't a cliquey or exclusive bunch.

I need the accountability of attending the WW meetings. If no one is keeping me honest... I cheat. So WW membership & meetings are the only weight loss program that has worked for me. But like all the great advice already here; it's a very personal thing. Whatever works for YOU. It definitely requires a certain mindset or else all you are doing is throwing away $$.
