What a sad world we would all live in if we couldn't taste food! That is the big lesson I learned while I have been sick this past week. I couldn't taste anything for a good two days. Although good on the weight loss front, it was really terrible overall!
First of all, it took a lot of joy out of eating. Also, it was really hard to decide what to eat since I didn't have any kind of craving. I did notice that different foods gave me different sensations on my tongue. I could feel the sweetness of fruit and the bitterness of oats. So maybe I didn't lose the sense of taste as much as the sense of smell. They really do go hand in hand, don't they?
I can finally taste things again although not at full force.
One final thing I noticed is how very little food I actually need. When you can't taste, you really just eat to get rid of the grumbling in the belly. It took VERY little food to do that. Although I would get hungry again very quickly.
Anyway, as much as it stunk, I did learn a lot about my body. I tried to make good choices since I couldn't taste anyway so at least my body was getting the good stuff! :)
