Top-heavy

I’m a top-heavy type girl. It’s somewhat obvious in the photos, but I typically dress to hide my assets rather than emphasize them.
While I’m heavy, I tend to balance out: my hips are bigger, my waist and shoulders are bigger. Even at my biggest size, my hips were only a couple of inches larger than my bust line, and my waist was significantly below both (~5 inches). Now that some of those numbers are getting smaller, I get more and more self-conscious about the one that isn’t going to shrink a whole lot without surgical intervention.
It doesn’t help that I have no idea how to dress myself in a way to look nice but not whorish. Most shirts that would look like and flattering on smaller-chested girls look frankly obscene on me. I managed through high school and college by wearing t-shirts all the time. Now that I have a job, I’ve got to find some alternate plan of attack.
Any thoughts, folks? I mean: wearing that size 10 pair of pants to work this week felt soooo good (down from a size 16!!), but the extra large polo shirt that completed the outfit didn’t make me feel as confident as I should have.

Hi there! I'd suggest, firstly, that you go and get fitted for and purchase a properly fitting bra or three. That will help you a million times over. You can go to Victoria's Secret or Nordstroms or somewhere like that and someone should be able to fit you. Secondly, get away from t-shirts and polos. Go for button down shirts that are tailored to fit about the waist. Stay away from stretchy knits and look for nice woven fabrics. If you have to purchase shirts larger, then do so. Don't worry about the size, the ta-ta's are worth saving!

I agree completely with Saucy...you need to be fitted and Victoria's Secret is a great place to do that. My daughter just got fitted there and the bras she bought are phenomenal. Expensive, yes, but worth it all the way.

I am not small enough yet for VS, but when I am I'm going to get mine there too. I, unfortunately, have lost a lot of my breast size, so picturing what I will look like even smaller isn't easy...but I can't wait.

I have a second suggestion to add....try getting some of your shirts tailored. I'm not sure about cost, but a few basic pieces would do your work wardrobe a world of good. You may have to buy bigger, but having them taken in at the waist to fit the bust might be just the trick! I'm a big fan of What Not To Wear on TLC and they had one of their girls do just that, she was smaller in the waist and leg than on top and had to buy shirts at Lane Bryant, but by getting them fitted she looked awesome!

Good luck, can't wait to hear how it's going!!
