Blog to Lose

No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!

Happy fourth of July everyone. As I gear up to witness the spectacle of Nathan’s hotdog eating contest on ESPN, I am reminded that asparagus and cauliflower are far less tasty than hotdogs.

While this may seem like a forgone conclusion, try cutting out most carbs and all sodium rich spices and you are left with a diet consisting of chicken and bland, fibrous veggies. Why have I subjected myself to torture? I am currently in the final stages of preparation for the first of four photoshoots beginning this Sunday.

After departing for NYC tomorrow, this week long journey will include a meeting with the model editor of Men’s health and photoshoots for Men’s Exercise magazine. Most of all though, this preparation will be remembered fondly as I witness the fruits of my labor (and feast) next weekend.

I have worked long and hard to once again drop below 10% bodyfat while maintaining as much lean mass as possible. My journey began at 166 and 14% BF four weeks ago. And as of this Monday, I was 158lbs and 9.2% BF.

Visible indicators of this process include a now visible six pack, improved vascularity and markedly decreased bloating (due to the fact my consumption of beans and broccoli has nearly ceased). I am pleased by the results of my interval cardio routine and strength training program.

By alternating walking with maximum treadmill sprinting for periods of 30-40 minutes I feel was able to achieve a siginificant fatloss without starving myself. For strength training, I set aside 1 hour three times per week in which I completed as many reps of three full body exercises (power clean, weighted pullups, weighted push ups) as possible.

I also opted for a carb loading day once per week in which I focused solely on heavy lifting to maintain strength. While it is impossible to put on muscle while in a caloric deficit, this will allow me to rapidly do so once I bump up my calories again.

Ultimately, all of this will be put to the test on film this Sunday, and I will continue to report back this week on the results of my journey (and my mental state on low carbs)
