Over-eating In The Evenings

I really tend to over-eat in the evenings when I do it. Not sure if it's boredom or what it is, but that is always my bad time. Sitting in front of the TV and munching. I've been trying to choose healthier snack to keep at home because I know this about me, but I find I'm having a tough time.

Do any of you have suggestions to get through that time of day?

I know some people have told me to get up and do something other than watch TV, but it's my guilty pleasure. I work all day, I work out MOST days, I come home and make dinner for everyone, I shower and then I get the jammies on and relax, often not until around 9pm. If I have cleaning to do I skip the gym and get my AP that way. I am not willing to give up TV...so I need help figuring out what to eat that WON'T send me over my points, or at least not as FAR over them!

I save my fruit for night. I normally eat 2 cups of grapes about an hour before bed. Last night I was so stuffed from them I could barely cram the last few in my mouth.

Games on pogo.com keep my hands busy. They're addictive, and I normally don't even want to stop playing to eat.

I also save the majority of my points for late in the evening. I can go all day without eating a thing, but for some reason, about an hour after dinner, I'll eat anything and everything. I think it's all about knowing your body and planning.

I have the same problem. I love love love to snack at night in front of the TV. I've discovered 2 tricks and maybe they will work for you. The first is to watch TV in bed because we have a no food in the bedroom rule in our house so as long as I remain in the bed, I know I'm not sticking my head in the refridgerator. The second is that I usually have a craving to snack during commericials so I have an activity planned for commercial breaks, such as reading, looking at a magazine, journaling, whatever. I find that these tricks have gotten me through some nights when I know I would have snacked in front of the TV if I didn't have them.

Those are really good ideas! I've found if the food is far away or out of sight, I'm less likely to eat.

I got in a bad habit of keeping snacks on my night stand! Bad idea!

Try chewing gum or drinking water. I find myself doing this in the evenings when I all I want to do is snack.

Guess you have to decide if you want to give up snacking in the evening. It's been the hardest part of my journey. So far, I've decided that I like my snacks in the evening so I make sure I leave enough points to cover my snacks. I find that if I deny myself I eventually give in and eat everything in the cubbord. There are lots of SF FF things that should satisfy your sweet tooth. The popcorn suggestion is great too. Usually the lowfat brands are only 2 or 3 pts for 6 cups. I spray a little liquid butter on the popcorn - no pts. If I need something to crunch other than carrots...ugh, Synders Sour Dough Nibblers are good too, 16 pcs are 2 pts. Hang in there, WE CAN DO IT!

I seem to want to do non-stop snacking from the minute I get home. One thing I do pretty strictly is I don't eat anything after 8pm. I also try to eat my dinner meal later (around 7pm) so I don't have as much snack time that way. Finally, I do tend to chew a lot of gum. That way, my mouth is thinking it's actually doing something, but I'm not consuming the calories.

First I think it's important to know what you do currently snack on, before making suggestions. Without knowing what you are eating I would suggest drinking large glass of ice water and sucking on the ice. The more water you drink, the more you will be up running to the bathroom during commercial breaks, this will cut down on the calorie intake and burn a few in the process - all that running to the potty.
Having a 100 calorie popcorn snack, or celery with peanut butter might help. What are the restrictions of your diet plan?

I tend to go for salty fatty snacks above all else, but also carbs.....cheese & crackers, ramen(with cheese), soft pretzels, peanut butter, sometimes ice cream...

I've tried water...it helps, but not always...last night I ate two soft pretzels...not sure what the heck happened there...but I threw the rest of the package away this morning....

Do you like hummus? Maybe cucumber slices with hummus. This gives you the same sensation of the cheese and crackers, multi-mini snacks, - but the hummus is high fiber, relatively low carb and made with garlic, some salt, may curb that craving and help to fill you. If you make the hummus from scratch be sure not to forget the tahini paste.

I made some and took it to work - the girls loved it!

Hummus sounds good, I'll give that a try, the crunchy aspect of the cukes sounds great, and I've had hummus before so I know I like it...thanks for that great idea!
