Orange sunrise smoothie

I was contacted by a representative from the Florida Department of Citrus, who wants to educate consumers about the benefits of orange juice.  By including foods  that are high in vitamin C, like 100% orange juice, you can stay healthier during the cold and flu season.  Kim Galeaz, a registered dietitian and contributor to 4 weeks [...]

Baked pumpkin donuts

Thanks to Megan from www.megansmunchies.blogspot.com who frequents my brothers site www.backtothefridge.com, I found this recipe she posted from www.cooks.com for baked pumpkin donuts. There is a farmers market in my town that makes fresh donuts every Saturday and the line is super long.  But when you get there, they are warm, (fried), and dipped in cinnamon and sugar.  Its like [...]

How much protein do you need?

Surprisingly, not as much as you think.  One thing I have learned in the nutrition course I am taking is that the average American usually exceeds the recommended amount of protein without even trying that hard.  Your body can’t store extra protein, so there is no point in overloading on the recommended amount of protein [...]

Lasagna for one!

Over the summer, my Mom called me to come over to her house and help her with the tomatoes in her garden.  She had sprained her wrist and wanted me to help her par-boil the tomatoes, take the skins off, put them in a food processor and then portion them out in Ziploc bags to [...]

Honey roasted chick peas/Fantastic Trail Mix

The other day I made roasted chick peas for the first time and they turned out great.  They were super crunchy, I added garlic salt, cumin and chili powder.  Basically, you take a can of chick peas, drain it and rinse it, throw it on a cookie sheet and I put 1 tsp. olive oil, [...]

Plans for the weekend

It's going to be rainy all weekend here in the Chicago-land area and I was just thinking about indoor stuff I can do. I know there is always laundry, cleaning etc... but this weekend I am going to make a list of all the things I need to put in place for me to be to continue to be successful at losing weight. I am falling into the trap of doing more for others than I do for myself. School has started, and there is homework, making dinner, cleaning up dinner, dishes etc.. My husband is training fo… Continue

I need to kick it up a notch!

I was having great success, losing for 10 weeks in a row, losing 17 pounds, feeling like I was unstoppable, on top of the world, like nothing could ever go wrong. And nothing really has gone wrong except I've stayed basically the same for the last 3 weeks. I haven't kept up with my exercise, I have conciously kept track of points, but not writing anything down (which is what helped me lose the 17 pounds in the first place!). I am basically at a turning point. I've been down this road so many tim… Continue

Work out.....that didn't work out

I was so excited yesterday afternoon, because I thought for a moment I would actually have the house to myself for an hour! I have 3 great kids, and my babysitter took them to her house for the day to play at her pool in her back yard. By the time I got of work at 5:30 and I hadn't heard from them I thought they had not headed back home and considering the traffic, it could be almost an hour, and the fact that my husband was going to the Y to swim before dinner, I had fantasies of coming home an… Continue

I made it!

I'm just about to leave work for the day, and I am pround to say I didn't have the huge cookies from Corner Bakery that were bigger than my head at work today!!! It took a lot of will power. I think the cookie would have been 1/2 my points for the day!! Have a nice night everyone! www.slim-shoppin.com

Weigh-in Wednesday!! Down another pound! Wahoo!!

One thing I was noticing after looking at Roni's weight loss when she first started was that except for a few big losses a couple of weeks, mostly her weekly weight losses were like 1-2 pounds per week or less. After scrolling through her on-line weight loss journal, it seems that little losses add up to big losses before long! So, that is my strategy from now on. I'm focusing only on daily goals, the weeks will fly by anyway and before you know it, I'll be at goal again! I'm on 7 weeks with a l… Continue

Thanks for the comment. I like your ideas- I will have to bulk up on more veggies. I can't eat potatoes or high carbs due to insulin resistance. As far as the cleaning thing...my kid is three (actually she will be in 26 days) so she isn't a lot of help. She will pick up her toys but easily gets distracted. I did manage to get the dishes done. I really plan on knocking a lot of it out during her nap--she likes to help but it is more work than it is worth. I did get in the walk and the swimming.

I think age plays a big factor, back in 2001 I lost 50 lbs in like three months with WW. I had the hardest time journaling and portion controling, but I walked 4 miles every morning except Sundays which made me drink mucho water. I think we all have to find what works for us and stick with it. If we start to plateau then change - My motto ONE DAY AT A TIME. Congratulations and best of luck with your journey.

Hey thanks for the add. As for the question, It took about 9 months, but remember all people are different. I was about 5 pounds lighter but with the start of summer - I've been "maintaining" the past couple weeks to say the least.
