One Size Doesn’t Fit All

A few days ago, a study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine that compared the efficacy of low-fat, Mediterranean, and low carb diets over a period of two years.  The study is making big news because of both its large scale and surprising results.  At the end of the two years, participants in every group lost [...]

Tuesday Recap

I have decided that I have an amazing hidden talent:  melon picking.  I’ve always been so afraid to choose them, but both of the times I’ve tried it, I’ve ended up with absolutely delicious, juicy ripe melons.  I got greedy and cut up half of a large melon, but only ended up being able to [...]

Spotlight: Ellie Krieger

Since I’ve posted about my experiences with the South Beach Diet, I felt that it was important to give a bit of press time to a few of the other books and resources that have had a siginificant impact on my food philosophy.  First up is Ellie Krieger, an RD who has written two books [...]

Monday

Breakfast this morning was banana oatmeal with cranberries, lowfat milk and sesame seeds.  I also had a small spoonful of peanut butter.  This breakfast didn’t hold me very well for some reasons.  Maybe it was substituting the milk for my usual yogurt? Lunch, on the other hand, was very filling and delicious.  I had an Ezekiel [...]

Lazy Sunday

Today was my classic breakfast, but it seemed extra special because I finally got to eat Fage yogurt instead of the gross kind I bought before.  Normally, I buy Trader Joe’s nonfat Greek yogurt because it is much cheaper, but every once in awhile I treat myself to the Fage…it’s expensive, but the texture is [...]

About Me:
I'm a newlywed graduate student adjusting to life in the big city. My weight has always been a struggle for me, and I graduated from college about 20 lbs heavier than I'd like to be. After graduating, I started a real effort to eat well and exercise more, and I've been gradually dropping the extra weight. Most importantly, I'm learning to change the way I think about food and moving and living.

Thanks!

Thank you to everyone who responded to my last plea for help!!!! I took your advice and mixed things up with my exercise. There is a lap pool at my apartment that I have never used until this week. After reading your comments, something went off in my head and I remembered that it was there. I talked to my husband, and he agreed to go swimming with me! So now, we are going to go swimming several times a week in the evenings instead of watching crummy TV that we aren't even interested in, anyway.… Continue

Help!

Okay, so I've been TOTALLY slacking off with exercise lately. I know that full time work + commute is a harder exercise situation than being a student on a large, safe university campus, but I have no excuse. I've actually been doing really great on the food front--my new food blog has been very motivating and fun--but I've used that as an excuse to totally slack off on exercise. A few months ago, I was walking 10,000 steps EVERY SINGLE DAY, and I was making it to the gym (or at least doi… Continue

Happy Surprises

I went to the doctor's office yesterday and for the first time in my life, I got a pleasant surprise when I stepped on the scale. I was wearing all of my clothes and had just eaten lunch, but the scale told me that I was 128.5 lbs! Now, this scale might run a bit lighter than my home scale, but I have never in my life had a happy surprise on the doctor's scale before. Never. In other news, my food blog is going really well and I already have a couple of regular commenters! I'm still getting in… Continue

Check out my new blog!

Okay, this is decidedly a work in progress, but I finally took the plunge and started a separate food blog. I'd love it if some of you guys came and visited me at Blueberry Hil!

New blog?

I've been toying for awhile with the idea of starting a food blog. I would still show up here, of course. There are so many things that I like about the new community...it's a much more flexible format than the old weightwatchen blogs and I've connected with so many new people on this site. But at the same time, this doesn't feel like having a real blog. I like having my own customizable page where I can post either long posts or short thoughts or whatever pops into my head. Here, I find my post… Continue

Hi. Thanks for stopping by my page! I've heard phase 1 can be difficult, but I figured it's only for 2-3 weeks. My friend told me that those 2 weeks is when the water weight really drops off...she lost 10 pounds. I see you're getting ready for finals...Me too. I should be studying instead of being on the computer ;)
Thanks for the friend request. Kristy
