Profile Information

About Me:
Hello fellow BlogToLosers!

I'm a 30-year-old broadcaster with a part-time gig in public radio, a podcast and a blog-in-the-making. I also do some voice work and PR writing.

I've worked out and lost before. I participated in a few track and field events at school, but mainly focused on the arts (I was a big vocal jazz geek). Then I was a member of a step-dance group during university and moved on to West African dancing. Those kept me in shape while having fun.

I went to school to do my masters degree. Save for the weekly salsa dancing at a local club I didn't do much exercise and I don't recall watching what I ate much. When I went overseas to work in radio I had a good stint of working out 4-5 times a week soon after my father passed away. I was in an unhealthy relationship at that time too, so working out was a welcome distraction and kind of a way to grieve. At the gym, I was part of a group where the leader helped us monitor our eating, working out and water intake. I lost about 15 pounds.

Then, after moving back in with my mother four years ago not long after my father passed away, I struggled to maintain a healthy diet and sound mind. I gained the weight back and then some. Being just under 5'2", when I gain 10 pounds, you can see it.

Today I live with my supportive 'fishetarian' boyfriend, and feel closer to reaching my professional goal. Plus I'm back to being my regular happy self! Being in the broadcast industry, and with an eventual goal to be an excellent TV host, it's time to present a healthier me!

An important element in this is my spiritual path - I know my success in bodily health is inextricably linked where my mind is at.

A no-numbers scale? Just who are you, Mary Lou?

OMG. VERY interesting scale Roni's trying out and I want it. Imagine a scale not giving you any numbers - just giving you encouragement and even APPLAUSE until you lose 10 pounds. And then you do it again. Dang! So, I entered the Mary Lou's Weigh Platform Giveaway and you can check out Roni's Weight Loss Blog for more information. Here's what it looks like:… Continue

Small but great success!!

So if you've read my profile you know I work in public radio as a host. The show I work on is fun, has GREAT people and is very rewarding. Well, I was invited to try and start writing my own segment for the show and I did. I got a positive response and I'm happy to say I will be reading my own script on December 6! It happened yesterday. This is exciting for me on a few levels. First, my producer didn't even have much to say in the way of criticism or changes and told me he would simply drop my… Continue

Wake Up Call

I only lost .2 lbs!!! I worked out 4 times, and took my Greens Plus! Oh wait. I also went over my weekly points allowance by about THIRTY-FIVE points. Riiiiiight. Back on track - going to stick to my daily points and go from there. Since I have less than 15 lbs to lose I'm told it's pretty tough going from here. Diligence is necessary. Here we go!

Boyfriend stops asking - Are You Sure You Want ANOTHER Cookie?

Hey all. I'm now down a total of 7.8 pounds and it feels good. I thought I'd check in as I've had a few mixed feelings. First, I had a bit of an argument with my boyfriend on the points counting. A long time ago, pre WW I asked him to help me out with curbing my overeating. Well, he did his job too well, so I decided this is my thing anyway, I can do it on my own. I told him, and he understood. But he didn't stop. He'd pause conspicuously when I would go for seconds or choose sugary treats. He… Continue

After the WI

I have lost 1.4 pounds! YAY! My friends, this is fabulous. I learned that it wasn't as bad as I thought. BUT, it's not to say I can make the same choices this week. I'm to keep making the good choices, keep planning, keep having those veggies I love, and keep active. At this rate, it looks like I may reach my 10-pound goal by Dec 3. I won't fuss if I don't, but it's a nice thing to look toward. YAY! I'm going to eat pizza now. Just two slices - not 3 and 4 like I used to. This feels great!

I thought you took them. I hope it's helping me. I've been taking them for a few days now and I think they must be helping somehow. I'm feeling pretty good. I hope you are doing well!

Nooners, It's great to talk to a fellow Canadian on here. I don't go out to eat as much anymore, as I have found it difficult to fit such high point meals in my low point daily allowance. I'm going out tonight with a friend for my birthday. I tried looking up the nutritional facts for the restaurant but it was not available. I hate that! It's an Italian place so I'm probably going to choose a tomato based sauce to keep it lower fat /low cal choice. It's going to be difficult today though. I am fighting major PMS cravings and would rather eat something less nutritious. Too many b-day celebrations this week to let everyone become an indulgence though! I have to be very careful or maintanance is going to be a disaster!

Thanks! those are old pictures unfortunately. I'm trying to use it as motivation but so far it's not really working.I've been steadily gaining and I'm not sure what it will take to get me back on the wagon. It looks like you are getting great results! Im happy you are doing so well! I hope some of that rubs off on me because I could use the momentum.

Thanks for the advice on my post last week. I have been a WWer for 9 years and I have never heard of the Wendie plan. And on my last post I received two different people telling me about it. I didn't follow it exactly, but I did fluctuate my point usage daily- and I lost a pound this week!! It makes sense to me the need to vary the number of points I use. And the ironic thing is I ate more points that I was allowed last week and I still lost. Go figure
Thanks for the advice- it is much appreciated. I am going to try it again this week and see what happens.

Thanks for the comment! I don't do anything strict, but I know what I should and shouldn't be eating, it's a matter of putting those into action and making good choices. I exercise 5 times a week and eat lots of fruits and vegetables and limited sugar. Looking forward to following your journey!

Wow. I'm not looking forward to the cold at all. What's Capoeira? I'm really bored of the gym and dying for a new activity. At the moment I have no time for anything but in the new year I want to try something new!
