About Me:
I finally got a healthy level of disgust of my weight and eating habits that motivated change in my life, and on July 8, 2008, I began changing my eating habits to include more fruits and vegetables and less junk. I exercise 5 times a week, which is a lot more than I used to before I started this. I don't follow a strict plan, because I want this to be a permanent life-change. However, as of November 12, I began counting calories as a way to stay accountable and make me be aware of what I'm putting into my body. I don't aim for a certain number, because I know what foods I should and shouldn't be eating. Consequently, my numbers are usually around 1,500 calories a day, which I think is a good number.

A little more about me... I am a 23-year old music therapist in the midwest. I work at a psychiatric hospital, and I absolutely love my patients. They enrich my life so much, and I am amazed at how they respond to the music and what I do with them. I live with my loving husband, Chad, and sweet dog, Thumper. My sister lives close to me and I love spending time with her and my three beautiful nieces. I also enjoy taking our dog to the dog park, going on bike rides with my husband, scrapbooking, playing the piano, and cooking.

No Weigh In This Week

I'm in Wisconsin (I'm from KS) for Thanksgiving, here visiting family (my husband's family). So, sadly, I won't be able to weigh in this week. We got here on Tuesday and will be going back on Sunday. So, my hope is that I won't be any higher than my last weigh in. I'm frustarted that I didn't try harder to find and buy a workout video before I came. Because I will only have worked out one day a week, and I always get in 5 good, hard days at the gym. So, I need to get my game plan and figure ou… Continue

Learning Experience from Pizza

Seriously, why am I surprised when I am not hungry for dinner, but still eat, and then feel full (and frustrated) after eating only half of it simply because two hours previous I ate a slice of pizza. Why on earth did I think it would be a good idea to eat that pizza? It wasn't even good. Here's how it started. 1:15 PM- making copies on one of the units for my music therapy group to start in 15 minutes; doctor brings in a box of pizza, sets it down in the conference room, meaning it's up for g… Continue

Counting Calories Does Wonders

A week ago I decided I needed to do something more structured. I hadn't consistently been losing weight like I used to since the Biggest Loser Competition at work got over the end of Sept. I don't think I ever realized how motivating it was for me to see my weight get lower on the 'official' scale, and to share with my team mates each week how much I'd lost. Since then, I'd been diminishing all the candy and excess foods I'd been eating. Thinking, oh, it's just a candy bar, I've been fine all da… Continue

A Gain This Week

I gained two pounds this week, which means my weight is the same as it was two weeks ago. *sigh* That's okay. I actually would have been surprised if I lost. I decided on Tuesday that I needed to do something more structured for myself. I've never done anything like weight watchers or counting calories, because I know what I should be eating, and it had been working. Well, the past few weeks I've gotten to a point where I'm eating too many sweets, and passing it off like it's no big deal. I fo… Continue

A Pep-Talk to Myself

Caylyn, you have been successful in losing over 30 pounds! Own it. Let it sink in. Thirty pounds! That's more than a small child. Take a moment and think about how much that really is and how amazing it is to have that weight off your body. Stop with the negative thoughts where you get in your head that 30 pounds is nothing, that it's no big deal. And consequently, the negative thinking that you are still fat and you will go on to live your life fat. That is a lie! A lie that Satan smiles at ev… Continue

Thanks so much for your comment! I had a great night and loved the way that I felt! It was so rewarding because I felt like I have worked so hard lately and not gotten anywhere. I realized that I have and that is a great reminder of how far I have come and it will help to keep me motivated to keep going to lose the remaining 15lbs that I am struggling a great deal to lose. I can do it. I feel it today for sure! I will keep reminding myself when I am disappointed with my progress of how absolutely amazing I felt last night! Have a great week and hope that everything is going well for you...take care.

Hey Caylyn...yeah....we launched Body Pump 67 too. Except our instructor had launched it earlier, and then found out he wasn't supposed to be doing it yet. So we've been doing that one for almost a month already! I'm ready for a change again! The lunges kill me!

I do page layout and design for a newspaper ... since it's on the doorstep at 6 a.m., someone has to be there late to put in all the latest news!

You wrote, "But, in the smaller picture, there are some days where I lose focus and slip up. That's what my post was about that you commented on." Definitely! But my 'elephant' essay is all about the view that there is no big picture. Every single moment of our lives is one small picture right after another. Where we get frustrated is when what actually happens is in complete contrast to what we thought would/should happen. The whole "I'm on a diet" but "oh crap, I just slipped up again." My epiphany is that the slip-ups (or what I like to call "real life") are more out of our control than we're comfortably able to admit.

Hey Caylyn! We were really trying about 3 months before we got married because we figured I wouldn't show if we did get preg right away but we have been trying for about a year now and now that hubby is getting deployed in January I figured maybe we would get preg if I lost some weight. If we don't get pregnant now tho, I am thinking maybe when he comes home for R&R. We will see though. I'm not the one in the hurry, hubby is! He is going to be almost 33 by the time he comes home from this deployment and I will only be almost 26. Well, I gotta get ready for work! Talk to you later! :)
