About Me:

Everyone has some reason for wanting to get thin. Mine started when I was born with Medullary Cystic Disease. Fortunately, it was discovered by the time I was 2 years old and by the time I was 6, I had a new kidney, donated by my beloved mother. And for 17 years, it worked fantastically with the help of prednisone and cyclosporine. For those who know all about prednisone, I'm sure you're aghast at how long I was on it. And I had all the side effects, particularly a nearly non-existent metabolism coupled with a large appetite. I was a pudgy girl. And somehow no one seemed to think that I was painfully aware of this and most everyone I knew felt the urgent need to TELL ME.

So, age 23, my kidney is poisoned to death by the prednisone and the cyclosporine and I get a new one. Of course, I had to wait a year to get it and in the meantime, I had absolutely no appetite. That changed with the new kidney pumping out toxins again. It wasn't until I was just 9 pounds shy of 200 pounds that I realized that I wasn't doing the new kidney any favors and so now I'm determined to work hard, to be healthy and to look good.

And to anyone who wants to tell me I'm fat, hey, I made it to Camo belt in Tae Kwon Do. Watch your mouth.

overcoming

Well, my weight is bouncing about a little and I think the source of the problem is The Scale. When it comes to The Scale, I would ordinarily weigh myself in the morning. Then it would be before and after I ran. And then I started weighing myself at night too. Are we seeing a trend? Are we seeing an unhealthy trend? So, guess what would happen. When the scale was low, I would be happy. When I'm happy, I have fewer constraints. Fewer constraints lead to eating more. Then I would weigh myself ag… Continue

slacked

It's been a while since I've posted about my weight loss. Frankly, it's because I kind of didn't lose any weight at all. Between my birthday and the fourth, I went up about 2.4 pounds from my 10%. With some real effort, I lost 1.8 of that, so now it's getting over having a period and all *that* joy it brings and trying to eat careful. I wonder what every other girl does when on her period. My personal cravings end up going all over the place and I just can't seem to stop grazing. I also can't… Continue

10%!

I hit my 10% at Weight Watchers this morning! It was fantastic, I'm really excited. I've come so far already, I'm so glad! It wasn't easy and it certainly wasn't FAST at all, but here I am now. I'll be turning 30 on Monday, too. Happy Birthday, you lost 30 pounds! Well, it's not like I started out at 300 pounds or anything, but the first 10 pounds I lost were unaccounted since they were Before WW. Anyways, 30 pounds by age 30, has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? Hopefully I can lose the other 40… Continue

Finding The Perfect Running Shoe For You RunLawrence Races As you can tell, I am getting right back on track when I get back home. I will have to go back to Week 6 of Podrunner Intervals when I get there because I haven't run for 11 days and I know my muscles just aren't what they used to be. But! I am going back and that's what counts!

Switching plans

So, here's how it is: Last year mom had cancer and went through chemo and radiation. She's done mostly fantastic but the fatigue has lingered. So she was researched how to fix that and found that some people had success with South Beach. So she headed to the Used Bookstore and bought a copy of a book on the SBD. Come to find out that it's very similar in some ways to WW's Core Plan. So she told me all about it, so excited. And as I know all too well, trying to change eating habits alone is very… Continue

Hi there. You're really no different than MANYof us out here. I looked at your pictures and you are a beautiful woman. Blow off all the na-sayers with their nasty opinions and comments. When someone says something to me about gaining weight (which really is only my Mother) I say, "Thank you very much for informing me of that. I wasn't aware but appreicate that you found it important to make me feel so horrible about myself." Then I say nothing and she usually shuts up after that.
You have a good weekend and keep up the great work. It's damn hard.
