About Me:
Right now I am focused on eating healthy because I am pregnant, but I am also overweight so I am trying very hard not to gain too much durning this pregnancy. Once the baby is born I plan on switching gears a bit and focusing on weightloss. I am not "dieting" right now, just trying to keep my weight gain to a minamim, as recommended by my doctor.
Plan of Choice:
Low Fat, High Fiber, Weight Watchers
Workout Philiosophy:
I only exercise because I have to

If you're gonna go over...

isn't it best to do it with too much salad? Last night I went grocery shopping and I was craving a salad. Not just any old salad. One with Romaine Lettuce, Mandarian Oranges, Pecans, Dried Cranberries, Crumbled Blue Cheese, and Raspberry Vinegrette Dressing. I spent too much time at the store and by the time I got home I was starving! I made a good sized salad, being sure to measure everything, and didn't add up the points until afterwards. Let me just say, I'm glad I chose the Reduced Fat Blue… Continue

It's a...

GIRL! I went to the doctor yesterday and found out that we're having another girl! The doctor says everything is just right as far as measurments and heart rate and all the other stuff they were checking for. I've been concerned about this pregnancy because I'm overweight, but it's caused me to be a lot more careful about what I eat and how much. It's turning out to be healthy pregnancy with little to no weightgain so far and a healthy baby girl who is growing and developing just fine! Even my b… Continue

18 wks (need advice)

18 weeks pregnant today! This morning I weighed 155, which is one pound more than I've weighed the past 4 or 5 weeks, but still 10 pounds less than I was at the start of my pregnancy. I don't feel that it's an actual gain because I've eaten several things over the past 2 or 3 days that I REALLY shouldn't have, so I thinks it's just bloating and water weight. I've noticed a pattern developing over the past 3 or 4 weeks that I'm not sure how to deal with and I'd like advice from anyone who wants t… Continue

Melanie

just my early morning rambling

I had dinner last night at around 7ish. No dessert and no snacks before bed. I woke up at around 1:15am and had to pee. My mom always told me that if you wake up in the middle of the night and have to use the bathroom you may as well get up and go because you won't be able to get back to slepp until you do. So, I got up and went. I laid back down hoping I could go back to sleep, but I then realized that I was hungry - so hungry that I couldn't sleep. It had been several hours since dinner, but I… Continue

No one's perfect!

Last night I attended a party that was serving only coffee, tea and desserts. I went there hoping to see some sort of fruit salad or something on the healthier side so I could partake in the festivities and not feel left out. There was no such dessert. Last weekend I asked if I needed to bring anything to this party and I was told no, but maybe next time I should anyway so there will be a healthier option. I know of at least one other lady there who is doing WW, so I'm sure she would have apprec… Continue

Thanks so much for the comment on my blog post about the NYTimes article... I really appreciate hearing your story. Sometimes it is really hard to find positive stories about pregnancy--usually you hear about the pregnancies where something went wrong. I will go back and read your post when I start to get scared.

I think I am most scared about affecting the baby's health, and I guess I am scared of some of the conditions associated with being overweight (gestational diabetes, etc). I am not sure what my base calories would be--I know she said I would only eat 300 extra calories a day. I am assuming I would eat 1600-1800 a day.

We are househunting, and once we buy (this Fall, I think) we will probably start trying to conceive. In the meantime, I am going to get all the ancestrial and glucose tests done. I may also try out another doctor--I like this one, but she was not as "warm" as I would have liked and her office was a little out of the way...

This hits home for me too--I am blabbing!

Yeah, it's a bit of an alarming video! Kind of snaps things back into perspective! But I'm glad I could bring it across your path! Keep up the good work (and it is a lot of work! lol) but it will all pay off in the end! Have a wonderful day!

That's tough! If there's one thing I've learned, you can't go against your hormones! Good luck getting some sleep.

Hi! Thanks for the comment. I wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy. It does seem that the "rules" change constantly of what you can and can't eat--or the latest debate among my SAHM friends--the right plastics! That's why I chose my OB/GYN. She seems relaxed about all the pendulm swings and I trust her to wade through what is nonsense and what isn't. I'm sure she will have the right advice. At least it's only a few months without goat cheese! I love the stuff too, but sushi is my real vice!

Hi Melanie! To be honest, it is not too easy to do WW on my own... I miss the support... I made my own food journals and I track everything I eat... I also go on this website for support... I plan to join the meetings too, but my husband and I want to have a baby soon, and so I need to ask our baby doctor if I can do WW while pregnant (and if I need to lose more weight before even trying to get pregnant!)... fun fun fun...

Ps. thanks for adding me as a friend--I kept meaning to send you a request!!

I don't know the exact amount she gained. I think it was pretty close to the recommended 10 lbs. She did say that what she gained, which wasn't much she lost very quickly after the baby came.
