About Me:
I topped the scale at 214 in early May, 2003. That was when I got home to my mom's after my sophomore year of college. I was shocked. I knew I had probably gained some weight, but I didn't know it was that much. I lost about 30lbs over the summer training for my first ever 10K race (and not eating cafe food and drinking 3-4 nights a week). I maintained my weight in the 185-190 range for the next 4.5 years, when it finally hit me that 185-190 is not all that healthy either, and just because I can run, doesn't mean I'm in shape. I want to avoid the high-weight issues that my parents have struggled with, and I want to have children some day. So, now is the time to get my act together! My ultimate goal is to maintain a weight that puts me in the "healthy" BMI range (happy to report that I have graduated from "obese" to "overweight"!!), whatever that ends up being. I have not officially joined WW, though I follow the Core plan, thus I don't have an official recorded goal weight. Some women at work are trying to start up a corporate WW program, and if that gets up and running, I plan to join that group. For now, here goes...
Plan of Choice:
Low Fat, High Fiber, Weight Watchers
Workout Philiosophy:
I'm a gym rat ALL the way, I'm a Running Fanatic, I love lifting weights

Progress

7/3: 169.2 <-- goal of seeing 160-something by my birthday (on 7/2), close enough
6/26: 173.8
6/19: 171.0
6/12: 171.2
6/5: 173.2 <-- that's 10%!!
5/29: 175
5/22: 176.2

Goals:
1. Healthy BMI range (graduated from "obese" to "overweight")
2. To not have to move the 50lb-increment weight on the scale at the gym to "150" before I can move the 1lb-increment weight
3. For even just a moment in time, to weigh less than my bf (who for the life of him cannot GAIN weight... uhg)
4. To wear my younger sister's clothes
5. Help someone else on their weight loss journey
6. Never EVER refer to my old self as "fat"
7. To wear white pants!!

Golly, it's been a while

... but I have a good excuse! And good news! First off, I made a move... like, literally. I moved in with my bf! The move was a little stressful, particularly since my old landlords were rushing me to move out since they found a new tenant super-quick, and I was motivated to get some of my rent for July reimbursed. Of course, the day of the move, I got a full-fledged migraine with visual aura and even the vomiting (TMI?). Uhg. I had to take two Rx pills and that didn't even do it. I was serious… Continue

I joined Weight Watchers

It looks like the WW at work program is not going to get started, so I signed up for WW online. I think I would prefer regular meetings, but I don't have any in my immediate area that fit into my schedule. Soooooo, online it is. I weighed in today... 175.5. Yeah, up from 169.2. It was a good weekend though...

Post-weekend update

I had an awesome weekend visiting my family! I was outside nearly the entire time swimming in the lake with my younger cousins and sitting in the sun (with SPF 8000) with my sister, and eattttting! I did pretty well - I had more birthday cake, burgers and hot dogs, chips, and beer - but that was all interspersed with tons of activity and fruit and water. So the scale said 173.6 this morning, but I'm not afraid. I promptly went to the gym, and I've eaten well today. I decided to take today as a… Continue

... And then there was birthday cake, too

There's this 83-year old guy that I work with who is a riot. He's very sarcastic and cynical, and cracks all sorts of joke, most of which do NOT follow HR's rules for harassment in the work place. Lucky for him I'm usually the only woman around (though not surprising in my industry) and I know how to take a joke. And that he's kidding, I think. Any way, he teases me non-stop, and he takes it just as well as he dishes it out... but mostly he pretends not to like me, generally referring to me as t… Continue

Thanks so much for your comment about the half marathon. It's good to be warned that the weight may not drop as I hope! Congrats on running one yourself!

Well thank you so much for your advice. I have to admit society does have a say in my decision but I mostly want to do it for myself. I want to look and feel my best and right now I really don't feel that way. I also have to say that I'm a little intimidated by weight watchers. Where do you start?
