Chinese Buffet Day

I sit tonight anticipating a visit to a local Chinese ... (cue the drool) we do have a great little place around here... the HYSTERICAL thing is that there is a Mennonite girl on staff AT the restaurant that takes orders and tidies up the dining area. Visually it's great to see her (with covering in tow) doing her thing amidst the yelling of things I do not understand... I digress.... so yes, tomorrow thanks to a BTL friend suggested setting some goals for tomorrow. So here is my attempt at that… Continue

Wish upon a star

I'm a sucker for a survey. You know the type... "copy and paste this, fill in your own answers and email it back". I love them and cannot get enough. My sister in law knows this. I am usually the answer to her #27 "Who will respond the fastest?" So there in my mailbox is a shiny 'newer" survey. I generally try and jazz up my responses let the creative juices get a move on. And then I read her #44 "Do you wish on the stars"? And God has a funny way of speaking His love to me when I least expect i… Continue

Internet service in an Amish world

As one of the locals would comment.... "Those crazy "English". To clarify to the curious.... we have a TV. However, it is reserved for the likes of a Nintendo 64 and DVD's. The area we live in (depending on how far in the sticks you are..) does have cable service... we have the internet only. It's fun trying to explain commercials to our kids when we're at Grandma's =0) The culture here is amazing and VERY family focused. We had neighbors recently move (a black cap Mennonite family) who,… Continue

Flights of fancy.

A little about me. I am a married mother of 2 in Amish Country (we don't have TV **gasp**) I am currently about eh... 40 pounds I'm needing to shed and have found 2 encouraging and mean friends to help. I am also "boot-legging" my own version of WW compliments of my niece answering questions (she's actually paying) and doing a basic web search. SOOOO that being said... here I sit, hungry trying to adjust my "good eating choices" and portion control". Daily point min is 27... today's total was 32… Continue

Thank you Carrie Joy! I actually gained 0.6 this week, so I have lost 84.0 pounds in 1 year. I attribute the gain to not exercising much. It's been attrociously hot here (high humidity....central Illinois) so I haven't walked for about 3 weeks, and last week I only went to Curves twice, and this week, I didn't go until right after WW weigh-in. My Mom is in the hospital, had surgery Wednesday and is having surgery again tomorrow, so I've been up there with her. My life is SO BUSY this summer, that I cannot wait until summer is over (sorry for your son having to go back to school!). I also take a pilates class 2 nights a week during the school year, but not in the summer, and I'm missing it terribly.

Carry Joy--In February 2007, I joined Curves for Women because I felt old and fat and totally out of control. I wasn't really ready to quit eating all the bad but yummy food I was eating, but I figured I could lose by getting active. My extremely honest son (Mr. Fitness) told me, "that's great Mom, that you want to get healthy, but don't think you're going to lose any weight with exercise alone". I was really upset about that, but I joined Curves anyway and began exercising 4 times a week. Well then, God started sending people my way (my son was the first one) to let me know that I also needed to work on my food plan (all these little things just kept happening), and by early August, I knew I needed to do something about the food I was eating and had decided to join WW.

Thanks for the welcome Carrie Joy! I'm doing the same thing as you - following the WW plan on my own (and snap! - I get 27 points too!). I joined WW before but I have such irregular work hours that I find it really tough to get to the meetings. I know I have some of the books and trackers around here somewhere, I'll have to dig them out. In the meantime, there are a lot of point calculators on the web, so I'll try to work out how much I can eat for 27 points from them.

Sounds like a really interesting place where you live. As for the tv thing, I lived without a tv for nearly five years (we would watch movies on the PC) and I never missed it. I read so many books and had so much free time. Now I'm living back in my home town with some of my family and we have something like 957 channels and it's sooo addictive. Worse than chocolate. I'm really thinking of cancelling our cable - maybe my running machine will see more of me then!
