Man on a Misson

Profile Information

About Me:
I have been married to my wife since 2000 and have 2 boys (3.5 and almost 2 years old). I started gaining weight back in the late 90's and in 2003 went on a WW style diet and lost nearly 50lbs and got down to 203 lbs. I was never able to get below the 200 mark. Since '03 I have crept up every holiday season and am back up to about 220. Goal: to break the 200 lb barrier.

I play sports and work around the house to stay active, but I want to get a better regiment at the gym. Most importantly, I need to work on portion control.

I try to stay active with sports. I play racquetball, softball, and have started running/walking (in hopes of running a 5k sometime). My main problem come in the eating department. I am not completely out of control, but I need to be better - both in my choices and portions.

Wish me luck.
Plan of Choice:
Weight Watchers
Workout Philiosophy:
I stay active doing everyday activities, I only exercise because I have to

Back in the Gym again

My wife and I joined a 24/7 gym right next to our neighborhood. It is so close - less than 10 min to walk and about 2 min to drive there. It is great because now I can work out on weekend mornings when everyone else in my house sleeps in and I can also work out some nights after 9pm after the boys go down. My wife and I have agreed to trade a few nights during the week where we take turns watching the boys so we can both make it to the gym for a while when we feel like it. I did not go tonight,… Continue

What are my goals anyway?

I have restated my goals several times in the past. Generally they stay the same. Here are some things that I want to be able to do/goals I want to reach. Some are daily things - some are long term goals. It just helps me to see them in print. I think all of these things are possible with some work and patience. 1) weigh under 200 lbs 2) run a 5K continuously 3) be able to play tennis and racquetball without worrying about throwing out my back. 4) shrink 2-3 inches in the waist (currently a… Continue

Question for the Wives (#1)

I have tried to get my wife to help with me eating healthier by not bringing unhealthy foods into the house. It works for a few days and then she brings home a bag of chips, leftover pizza, cake from someone birthday, etc. For a while there I was throwing it out ASAP when she was not home, but often I would have a few bites, and in some cases more than a few. Question: How can I get my spouse to support me more about not bringing tempting and unhealthy foods into the house knowing that I… Continue

Getting started again

Hi - I am getting started again. I am jumping back on the WW wagon and hope to not fall off this time. I am still trying to lose about 20 lbs. I am not sure what keeps knocking me off track. I know that I could make up about 20 excuses about why I have not stuck to it. Nevertheless, I am back to try again. I want to start being accountable for my actions. I am not sure yet how this site will help me do that -but at least it is a start. I could use all the help I can get. Oh yeah - I am getting… Continue
