About Me:
HI! I am 25 years old and live in the great white north (Michigan). It is great from about June through September or October, but the rest of the year it is freezing and kind of blah! I am a special education teacher and I love it. I learn something new about myself from my kids every day. I can't say that I dislike the time I have off in the summer, but I get kind of bored not seeing my kids and hearing all of their stories. I live with my boyfriend, dog and cat on the east side of Michigan and love going to see Tigers game (go Pudge!!!!).

I remember why...

...I gained so much weight in college. I just started my Masters Degree program on Monday with my first class. It meets every day for three weeks for three hours a day. I have been so busy with going to class, doing homework, studying and working part time that by the time I get home in the evening the last thing I want to do is put in the work to make a healthy meal. On top of that, why has the energy to workout after that! I am really glad that my class is only three weeks long!

Eat smarter, workout smarter...

That's my new motto! My new diet and excercise plan is going well, I have lost ~6 pounds in two weeks. I know that the weight loss will start to slow down, but I am excited for the positive start. I was so hungry last weekend, but I am starting to get used to proper portioning and proper serving sizes and my stomach is starting to shrink, so I don't feel so hungry anymore. I am actually leaving food on my plate now, something that I have NEVER done before! :) I think this weekend is going to be… Continue

Busy week! Engaged and a New Puppy!

I have to say that my diet was a little curtailed last weekend and the first part of this week, but for good reasons. Last Friday I got engaged and Saturday we got a puppy. WOW! It has been tiring! We went to my parents house, both of his parents houses, to get the rings sized and have been trying to puppy proof the house and keep up with him! On a positive note, I had my first dietician meeting on Thursday. I have to admit that I feel a little hungry, but I think that it will be fine once my s… Continue

Day 2 of a New Lifestyle

Well, I am two days in and while I feel a little overwhelmed by the changes that I need to make in life, I know that I will be really happy with the end results in the long run. At my orientation meeting for Weigh to Go the other day, I was told to think of my goals in short term, middle range and long term goals. So these are my goals: Short Term (to achieve a week from today): * Drink 3 or more glasses of water a day (I know this doesn't put me at the RDA for water, but this is hard for me si… Continue

Just starting...

Well, I am kind of new to all of this (at least the commitment part). I went yesterday for an orientation to a program called Weigh to Go through my insurance (Blue Care Network). I am sad to announce that I qualify (my BMI is 30) but at the same time I am glad that I qualify because I really need to make lifestyle changes, not just short term changes to lose a few pounds. The program consists of meeting with a nutritionist, fitness coordinator and wellness counselor each for 3-5 times for the n… Continue

The bellydancing class is so fun. I take it at a local studio in Chattanooga, Check out there website www.zanzibarstudio.com. I have been there for almost 2 years and yes it's a great core workout, although not that aerobic. I love it because ANYBODY can do it. The studio doesn't allow men and encourages an uplifting attitude. The first class starts so basic that even someone who doesn't consider themselves a dancer can learn this. There are all shapes, sizes and ages taking bellydance. If you are even slightly interested, find a class or get a DVD, it's so much fun. My goal one day is to perform at a local festival.
