About Me:
Early 30s graduate student -- you wouldn't believe what a few years with your butt glued to a library chair can do to your body! After a few "that can't be ME!?!" pics and a minor health scare, I'm working off the 75ish lbs that have come between me and enjoying life.

(The picture? That's me sucking down on 44oz of water ... or diet coke ... one or the other, usually all day long :)

Plan of Choice:
Weight Watchers
Website/Blog:

Workout Philiosophy:
I'm a gym rat ALL the way, I'm a Running Fanatic, I love lifting weights

I'm horribly delinquent.

I've been AWOL and MIA for a couple of weeks now ... First, I had to go out of state for a friend's funeral (... the third person close to me to die -- of cancer -- within the past year ...), and by the time I got home, the new academic year hit me with a vengeance. My teaching and seminar schedule is keeping me out of the house 12+ hours just about every day, so the complexity of meal-planning has increased, as has the need to schedule gym time , er, creatively. On the bright side, for the pas… Continue

NSV.

Alright, I had to "tell" someone -- my size 6 Jones of NY skirt alllmost fits: I can get it zipped just fine, and it's not even particularly bulgy, but I'd probably not wear it out for another couple of weeks or so. Now, I'll be the first to admit that it's probably a seriously vanity-sized piece of clothing, and given that my body is oddly proportioned (e.g. fat disappears off my trunk a while before my legs and arms slim down), I don't really see sizes as the indicator of how I'm looking ...… Continue

Whoa-whoa, we're half-way there ... ;)

So, the bad news is that I didn't meet my goal of losing 2 lbs for a total of 40 lbs lost this week. The good news is that I exceeded that goal and lost 3.8 lbs, for a total loss of 41.8 lbs. Yowza. I suspected that I might be losing something -- even "just" inches -- because my gym-capris were getting mighty loose. Personally, I "blame" working out five times this week, as well as not eating out so danged much. While the new 10-lb-bracket in which I'm finding myself is exciting in and… Continue

Moving right along ...

This week I: - Completed the C25K (... but you knew that.) - Reached my second 10% (woo-woo ;) - Got within 1 oz of hitting my next lower point-range - Got within a pound of hitting my "half-way mark" of weightloss .... what do you say? Can we go for 40 lbs lost next week? I think we can! Hope everyone else is having a great weekend!

C25K Grad!

I'm an official C25K graduate -- as of this evening, I've completed the 9-week program that culminates in three 30 minute runs during its last week. I'm happy and proud (... and sore!) What next? You should check out my other blog in the next day or two for updates :)

Thanks! I felt pretty darn hot when I put that outfit on, too ... Contrast that with a couple of days later, when I put on a pair of size 16 capri pants from the Gap and they fit practically perfectly ...

But then I remember that back in April (or was it March?) I could barely squeeze into those same capri pants ... I put them on and got them buttoned and zipped but opted not to wear them out in public because they gave me the most hideous muffin top!

Let's do this. There's a new group, started by J.Ross, for people who were inspired by Tanya's blog to get to goal (or pretty darn near) by Christmas ...

I bought the chicken and mozzarella meatballs at Sam's Club. It was a while ago, though ... I just unearthed them in the big freezer!

this is very interesting. My husband studies Classics, ancient philosophy. He got a scholarship to come study at Cambridge right after undergrad. He did well in the mphil and decided to stay on for the phd. His original scholarship ran out after 2 years, but he's scrapped together funding for the last 2 years. Otherwise, I agree--it's much easier to get funding in the states.
Cambridge is a good place to study Classics, but all the connections that he's making are in the UK not in the US.
Are you English?

ah, my husband is in the final year of his phd and hoping to submit within the next couple of months! Honsestly, finishing the phd seems to be easy in comparison to getting a job in academia.
I hope that your phd goes well. It's such a long trek!

Seems like it may well be an uphill climb rather than coasting... but it is sure nice to have a friend alongside me :)

I'm hoping that's the case. When I lost the majority of my weight, I pretty much consistently lost 2 pounds a week. Then I had to start walking a lot to see a loss. Then I pretty much stayed the same for several months even though I was still doing the same. I got off track and gained some, and the weight I gained has come off pretty easily. I've been living in fear that once I've lost what I've gained, it'll be slow going again.

Thank you very much for your comment. It means a lot to me! It's been a battle, but I can't believe I'm over half way there!!

Hi LG - thanks for the comments. I know people don't mean to be destructive - I think my photo comment was reflecting my frame of mind that day. I'm usually much more upbeat than that!

Congratulations, again, for your C25K success! Are you planning on registering for and running a "real" 5k soon? I'd love to hear about your experiences - and also about your new Nike+ ipod toy!

Have a great day!
