Profile Information

About Me:
I am a busy professional in my early 40s, blond (mostly real), hazel eyes, married, living in Maine with my husband, 2 miniature schnauzers, and 3 cats.

I have lost and re-gained 40-85 lbs. 3 times. I seriously want this time to be different. That is why I didn't choose a plan of choice OR diet interest. I want to eat healthy, PERIOD.

Being in the healthcare field I see women in different stages of their life and notice a strong correlation between weight and happiness, health, appearance, mobility, and general well-being. I want to be one of those 95 year old women that don't look a day over 70!

A First!

I had my first week since starting my healthy-eating campaign where I gained. It was surprising because I didn't veer off my plan. So, I know from experience to buck up, there is a good loss in my future! I won't say the number didn't affect my feelings at all, especially when I logged my weight @ ww.com and got this as my reward:

WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS...

...won't stay in Vegas because I'm going to tell you all about it!! My plan included taking a vacation from thinking about "dieting". For me, it was going to be completely acceptable to come back with a "small" gain. Since this was my strategy I surprised myself by still preferring healthier food! Snacks I packed for the long flight included mixed nuts and a bag of dates. We arrived in Vegas on Monday afternoon and was it HOT. Okay, I know everyone will say, "but it's a dry heat!". Well...when… Continue

Half-Assed Indeed!

I just finished reading devouring Jennette Fulda's book, Half-Assed, A Weight-Loss Memoir. I read it in less than 24 hours, all 246 pages. What I liked most about her book is that she really seems to "get it". She wasn't "on a diet" and didn't have an answer to "what's your secret?" yet she managed to get fit. The book was had me laughing out loud and then feeling oddly poignant all in the same page. From the book, I went on to her blog and read the… Continue

AWWWW...NUTS!!!!!!!!

I now have my own, "I didn't know that (BLANK) had THAT many points!!" story. I made a delicious salad for dinner: romaine, tomatoes, feta cheese, leftover roasted turkey breast tenderloins, cucumbers, dried cranberries...when I suddenly remember the honey roasted pecans my sister sent us. I chopped up enough to measure an ounce and sprinkled them on my salad. Now, I will digress, that salad KICKED BUTT, it was SO good! After I enjoyed the whole thing I sat down to journal. 5 POINTS!? WTH!? One… Continue

Insert Catchy Blog Title Here

Is there such as thing as 'blog title block'!?! I wish I could be one of those really clever bloggers out there (you KNOW who you are!) that seem to effortlessly write fun blogs! Anywho...good week as I was down 1.8. I am finding "new" clothes in my closet that are fitting better! Cheaper than my worst addiction: Coldwater Creek! Fewer challenges this week with NO TRAVELING...wooohooo! Wait...I just thought of a challenge I successfully negotiated today! We went for lunch to Day's Seafood...a c… Continue

Your breakfast sounds good. I've recently rediscovered blueberries and I'm loving them.

I was actually up this morning on the scale, so I'm pretty frustrated. If I have another week of no loss, I'm going to be so mad! I think it's because I haven't been able to walk because my feet have been hurting since I'm getting used to standing while teaching again. Once my feet get used to it, I'll hit the road, and I'm sure the scale will start moving again.

Thanks for the recipe. I'll have to try it soon. I love to make good, simple food. I hate those recipes where you don't even know what half of the ingredients or spices are. Right now I'm making a meatball sub. I have been craving one from Subway, but it's 12 points, so I decided to make one at home for less. I just cook some lean ground beef (4 points) that I made into balls. Then I'm actually using two whole wheat hot dog buns that I toasted. I'm going to pour some spaghetti sauce (2 points) over it and some light cheese (1 point). Yummy!

Yeah, I know any loss is great. I will take the small losses over a gain any day. It does get frustrating though after itty bitty losses week after week. I was starting to lose my motivation despite losing.

Well they raised the premiums just prior to the onset of the Wellness Event. It is a 4 criteria discount. Basically $10 a month for each of the 4 criteria that are met. Skip the event and you're out an automatic $40 a month. I went this morning and met 3 of the 4. Of course, I didn't have the BMI that was required and very few people did meet it. You know it's funny, the culture that I was brought up in would say these people are way too thin. I'm used to seeing people with curves....Beyonce and J-Lo have curves but I would never ever consider them overweight. It's funny..I wonder if they would meet criteria. (I doubt it.)

The chicken was excellent. Thank you so much. I have to tell you as I was making the marinade yesterday my hubby was turning up his nose. So I only soaked two pieces of the chicken and the rest we grilled up plain. Well when I put it on the grill tonight he said how wonderful it smelled and when he ate it he wished we would have make up all the chicken in the marinade. It's definitely something he'll be asking for regularly this summer. It was so yummy! We will lose this!! You are doing great!

Hi Lisa! I just wanted to let you know I'm trying the chicken today. My grocery store was out of oregano so I put in a small bit of dried. We were going to grill it out last night after we got back from the beach but none of us were hungry so I'll be making it for lunch. It smelled wonderful!
