Long overdue update

So if a picture is worth a thousand words, I am about up to date on this blog. In all honesty, I have spent this past week after my vacation recovering from my low carb lull and dealing with early mornings (did I mention Ive returned home from NYC?) In any event, my photoshoots last week both seemed to go well and both photographers were pleased. At the age of 26, I will never be a super model, but looking at the finished product frames the hardships and triumphs I endured to bring my body to… Continue

Carb crazyness by way of NYC

So here I sit in my un-air-conditioned NYC apartment (well, practically as the building does not have central air) starving and contemplating my well earned carb up twenty four hours from this moment. Tomorrow I will meet with the Men’s health model editor, shoot with to photographers and then chow down on some serious carbs. But in order to bring the water out of my skin, my diet for the last three days has consisted of fibrous veggies and meat of various types. Throw in the lack of cable, in… Continue

Sunday is independance day

Happy fourth of July everyone. As I gear up to witness the spectacle of Nathan’s hotdog eating contest on ESPN, I am reminded that asparagus and cauliflower are far less tasty than hotdogs. While this may seem like a forgone conclusion, try cutting out most carbs and all sodium rich spices and you are left with a diet consisting of chicken and bland, fibrous veggies. Why have I subjected myself to torture? I am currently in the final stages of preparation for the first of four photoshoots begin… Continue

Lessons of the week

Lesson of the week: So, one week to go until my NYC trip and things have once again been up and down. But one thing that is underscored for me each morning is that waking up at 5 am and a low carb diet do not mix well. Monday and Tuesday seem normal enough, but by the middle of the week, the lack of carbs and sleep begin to take their toll. A particularly troubling symptom of carbohydrate deprivation (at least in my case) has been my inability to concentrate on one task at a time. I wil… Continue

A tale of tyrosine

After an anxiety ridden week, I am truly amazed by the power of a balanced diet. After barley sleeping last night, I woke up this morning ready to tear phone books apart. But after a bowl of oatmeal and a good workout, my angst quickly gave way to a renewed sense of calm and purpose. What changed? Carbs! That is, today was the only day during the week in which I consume more than 150 carbs. Numerous studies have shown that starchy carbs (potatoes, grains, etc) in particular stimulate the produc… Continue
